Skilled Trades Expo Returns Sept. 22 and 23
CANFIELD, Ohio — In two weeks, the second annual Mahoning Valley Skilled Trades Expo will takeover the Canfield Fairgrounds.
New for this year, an evening session will allow graduates and jobseekers to meet with representatives from 15 area trades who are now hiring. The session is scheduled for 3-6 p.m. on Sept. 22.
“The trades in eastern Ohio and western PA are hiring at a record pace,” said Gary Hartman, services director at The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. “Our goal is to fill these positions with the good, hardworking people of the Mahoning Valley.”
Students in 7th to 12th grade will engage with trade reps during separate sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 and 23.
“A lot of people don’t realize the variety of skilled trades positions available and the financial security these careers can provide,” Hartman said. “This is a chance for men, women, and students to discover how their talents and interests align with different trades. These careers offer many attractive perks like paid training, industry- leading compensation, great benefits, job security, advancement opportunities, and more.”
Interactive displays will allow participants to experience the different trades firsthand under the supervision of certified industry professionals. To allow more time for hands-on student activity, Mahoning, Columbiana and Portage county students will attend Sept. 22, and students from Trumbull County, as well as Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania, will attend Sept. 23.
