Southern Park Announces New Virus Aid Efforts
BOARDMAN, Ohio – With much of the Southern Park Mall closed, Washington Prime Group is launching several efforts at the site to aid the community during the coronavirus outbreak.
On Thursday, the Chili’s will provide free meals to first responders and health-care workers from noon to 1 p.m. A drive-thru pickup area will be set up in the parking lot near the mall’s food court entrance.
Also at the entrance, Southern Park Mall will serve as a donation site for the Salvation Army. Nonperishable food items, bottled water, laundry soap, toilet paper and toiletries can be dropped off between noon and 5 p.m.
And Southern Park Mall is partnering with tenant The Art Cafe to donate 20 pottery kits each to Shepherd of the Valley sites in Boardman and Niles, as well as 40 kits to Beeghly Oaks Center for Rehabilitation and Healing in Boardman.
The mall is closed, with the exception of BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, PNC and Firestone Complete Auto Center.
Development of DeBartolo Commons at the former Sears site is continuing, Washington Prime said in its statement, but details such as tenants “will be announced as circumstances stabilize and return to normal.”
