Sports Fans Invited to Compete in Trivia Challenge

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Teams of area sports enthusiasts are invited to pit their knowledge against others in the Mahoning Valley Sports Trivia Championship.

Set for 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 22 at The Lake Club, the fundraiser for the Potential Development program will offer teams the opportunity to win the $10,000 grand prize or the second- place prize of $5,000. Potential Development serves students in pre-school through high school diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and special needs.

Em Muransky and Bob Hannon will preside at the contest, presented in honor and the memory of Esther and Morris Simon by their son, Michael J. Simon, Muransky  is  chairman and founder of the Muransky Companies, Hannon, president of United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.

They will be joined by nine sports celebrities who will ask some of the trivia questions: The participating celebrities :

Troy Smith — Ohio State All-American/2006 Heisman Trophy winner and former San Francisco 49er.

Maurice Clarett — Ohio State University running back on the 2002 National Championship team and motivational speaker.

Robin Cole — Two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro-Bowler with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

John Hirschbeck — Major League Baseball umpire.

Paul McFadden — former NFL placekicker.

Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini — former lightweight boxing world champion.

Shane Montgomery — Youngstown State University offensive coordinator and college standout at North Carolina State University.

Chris Sammarone — YSU All-American Player and 2004 inductee YSU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Anthony Schlegel — OSU linebacker and former New York Jet and Cincinnati Bengal.

Each team entry includes an open premium bar and heavy pub hors d’oeuvres .A limited number of four-person ($1,000) and eight-person ($2,000) team entries are still being accepted and can be reserved by calling Shellie Duchek at 330 746 7641 or by visiting MVSportsTriviaChampionship.com.
