Sports Update | Grove City Women’s Lacrosse Begins; Scrappers Seek Host Families

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Grove City College’s women’s lacrosse will host its first-ever game as a NCAA Division III program at 5 p.m., Wednesday at Don Lyle Field.

The Wolverines’ team hosts Marietta College, making women’s lacrosse the 23rd varsity sport on the Grove City Campus. The team’s 22-member roster includes freshman through seniors and is built on a foundation of the school’s club team and freshmen recruits by current coach Cassley Jackowski.

Jackowski is grateful to make school history, as well as establishing a competitive program as well.

“The biggest difference is we have the ability to compete at a higher level than we were able to as a club program,” Jackowski said. “The game itself doesn’t change. The concepts and the way we have structured our level of play stays the same entering our first season.”

Grove City competes in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, which sponsored the sport in the spring of 2019. The school has 12 women’s sports programs and 11 for the men, which added men’s lacrosse in 2018.

“We are very excited for the varsity debut for the women’s lacrosse program,” said Grove City College Athletic Director Todd Gibson. “It is clear that a special culture is being built that will make our team stand out as we seek to glorify God and win championships.”
