St. Patrick’s Day Parade Will Tap a Week of Parties
The annual Mahoning Valley St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday afternoon will kick off a week of celebrations in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys.
The parade – one of the largest in Ohio – will start at 1 p.m. at McClurg Road and Market Street in Boardman. It will head north on Market Street to Southwoods Avenue.
A tradition that draws up to 30,000 spectators, the 2023 parade will be led by grand marshal Dr. John Cox.
Part of the tradition is the parade after-party at the Magic Tree Pub and Eatery at 7463 South Ave. A large tent in the parking lot will house the party, which will feature performances by the Burke School of Irish Dance and the band No Funk No Justice.
In Sharon, Pa., the festivities will begin on Thursday for the inaugural Slainte Sharon St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
On the following day – March 17 – the original Quaker Steak and Lube will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day party. For more info, click HERE.
Large St. Patrick’s Day parties will also take place at Austintown Plaza, and in downtown Youngstown.
Here’s a look at both:
Austintown Plaza: Doors will open at 5:30 a.m. on St. Patrick’s Day for the annual party, which is billed as northeastern Ohio’s largest. Based in Frenchy’s Irish Pub and the plaza parking lot, the event will feature an Irish food menu, and music by the Steel Valley Bagpipers, RDNA, 80s Proof and Old Skool, starting at 12:30 p.m.
Downtown Youngstown: The annual Shamrock the Block St. Patrick’s Day event will take place on West Federal Street, between Phelps and Hazel streets, and in various bars and restaurants on or near that block: Avalon Pizza, Draught House, Circle Hookah Lounge, The Federal, The Foundation Lounge, Gringo’s Tacos, Ryes, Imbibe, Penguin City Brewing, Prima Cucina, V2, West 34 and Whistle and Keg. It will start at 11 a.m. with the tapping of Penguin City Dry Irish Red by parade grand marshal Cox at Penguin City. The brewpub, which will implement a $5 cover charge at noon, will feature the Steel Valley Pipe and Drum band and County Mayo Irish band.
The Shamrock the Block party will be repeated the following day, Saturday, Sept. 18.
