‘The Lighthouse’ Parody | 2020 Staff Picks

December 28, 2020: This requires some explanation.

First: January is always a hectic time at The Business Journal.

All month long our staff is busy editing and compiling hundreds of stories submitted by area businesses for our annual Growth Report, our biggest issue of the year.

Second: Last January the staff at The Business Journal, like everyone, had no idea what the rest of the year had in store. That is why we naively made this video.

Having just finished the Growth Report 2020, we believed one of the toughest periods of the year was behind us, and better, easier days were surely ahead.

In our effort to depict the challenges of putting the Growth Report together, we chose to parody the 2019 film, “The Lighthouse,” about two lighthouse keepers who become marooned on a barren island off the coast of New England in the 1800’s.

The two men quickly begin to get on each other’s nerves, and the repetitive nature of their days only makes matters worse.

With no hope of rescue in sight, tempers flare, cabin fever sets in and the two quickly start to go mad.

A short two months after making this video, looking back on our time working on the Growth Report would seem like a fond memory from a distant time.

The film itself would bare a striking, albeit greatly exaggerated, resemblance to our actual reality.
