Stage Left Players Present ‘The Red Velvet Cake War’

LISBON, Ohio – Stage Left Players will open its season with “The Red Velvet Cake War” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way.

Opening night will include a red velvet cake competition and cake sharing during the intermission.

The story follows cousins Gaynelle, Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette, who are determined to host the Verdeen family reunion despite the gossip and pending arrest of Gaynelle who accidentally crashed her minivan through the bedroom wall of her husband’s girlfriend’s doublewide. While the neighbor’s pet devours everything edible, a one-eyed suitor shows up to declare his love, and a jaw-dropping high-stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake.

The trailer-park comedy, written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, is directed by Kari Beil.

The performance schedule is 7 p.m. Sept. 24 and Oct. 1 and 8; and 2 p.m. Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 and 9. There are no Friday performances.

Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For reservations, to to stageleftplayers.org. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Credit cards are accepted at the box office.
