Storm Damages Sweeney Buick, Ethan Allen Store
BOARDMAN, Ohio – Sunday night’s severe weather tore part of the roof off at Sweeney Buick GMC, 8010 Market St., and forced a wall of the building to cave in.
The damage set off the sprinkler system and severed a gas line. Boardman firefighters were able to cut off the water and the gas shortly after arriving at the scene. Vehicles also were damaged.
The company issued a statement via Twitter:
“This evening, weather severely damaged our Buick GMC dealership. We are still accessing the situation and the damage that was done, however we can tell you that the building was empty and no one was hurt.
“We appreciate your patience and the kind words that we have received from the community. We will provide another update on the building as soon as more information is available.
The storm also tore off the roof at the Ethan Allen furniture, across the street from Sweeney Buick at 8040 Market St.
Trees were down in sections of Boardman and storm damage was reported in Calcutta, Columbiana County.
The National Weather Service is expected to assess the damage today and determine whether any of the damage was caused by a tornadic rotation.
