27th Annual Strimbu Bar-B-Que Draws 1,600
BROOKFIELD, Ohio – A crowd of nearly 1,600 attended the 27th Annual Strimbu Bar-B-Que, organizers report. The annual event, which was held Wednesday night, raises money for the Strimbu Memorial Fund, which was established in memory of the late Nick Strimbu Jr.
Since its inception in 1990, the fund has provided approximately $3 million in support of academic scholarships, local economic development and numerous charitable organizations. Of the money raised at the event, 99% go to these scholarships and grants.
The event catered by Jeffrey Chrystal Catering, featured a buffet reminiscent of a full-scale Texas barbeque and again featured country-rock star Chris Higbee. In addition, it featured both silent and live auctions, with items including a ride on the Goodyear Blimp, an electric cart, a wood-fired alfresco pizza oven, a John Deere Z-track mower, an Avalon Golf & Country Club golf membership, a John Deere Gator utility vehicle, travel packages and a Pittsburgh Steelers home opener package.
This year, $48,500 in scholarships was awarded to local high school students, including one $10,000 scholarship and 14 $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to further their education.
