Study: Education, Health Services Lead in Job Openings
The highest number of U.S. job openings are in education and health services, according to a new study by personal finance experts Wealth of Geeks.
The education and health services industries are recruiting for more than 1.9 million job openings as of September 2023, followed by the professional and business services industry with 1.6 million job openings.
Wealth of Geeks analyzed data collected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to develop the list, categorizing the 9.5 million openings across the country, which is up from 9.4 million openings in August but down from 10.8 million a year ago.
Jobs in the education and health services sector include registered nurses, with an average salary of $92,688. Among common roles in the professional and business services industry are administrative assistants, who average $50,625, accountants who earn $62,273 and lawyers with an average salary of $97,265.
Third on the list is leisure and hospitality, with 1.41 million job openings. The sector includes event managers and hotel managers, which both earn nearly $61,000 on average.
The next category is trade, transportation and utilities at 1.39 million openings, followed by government at 983,000 openings. Those are followed by financial activities with 647,000 job openings; manufacturing, 627,000 openings; construction, 431,000 openings; information industry, 160,000 openings; and mining and logging, 35,000 openings.
“It is valuable to be aware of the job market by industry in today’s current climate,” says Michael Dinich, a spokesman for Wealth of Geeks. “If you’re looking for a change in industry or a new endeavor, then this data can be useful to steer you in the right direction.
