TCTC Students Win First Place at Animal Management Competition
WARREN, Ohio — Students from the Trumbull Career and Technical Center’s Animal Science Health & Technology Team took home a number of awards during this year’s Animal Management competition.
The Ohio FFA Association’s competition included a 75-point multiple-choice qualification test that focused on material such as breeds, feeding, housing, reproduction and diseases. The top 150 students out of nearly 500 advanced, including those from TCTC.
The final phase of the contest included an online practicum and identification test. In addition to individual student achievements, the TCTC team finished first overall, exceeding the runner up by more than 100 points difference.
Cathy Billock, who teaches Animal Science Health & Technology at TCTC, met several times with the students at the school and via Zoom to prepare for the contest. Proctored contest results are:
- Bryanna Berringer, first place – Girard High School
- Carrigan Blascak, second place – McDonald High School
- Hailie Stevens, third place – Warren G. Harding High School
- Makayla Murphy, fifth place – Mineral Ridge High School
“Animal Science has been fortunate to place in the Top 5 of all Career Development Events they have participated in – Veterinary Science, Animal Management and Grooming – for the last 15 years,” Billock said in a release. “Students in this program have attended more than six Animal Science National competitions in the last 25 years. Our students exhibit real dedication and love for the animal care field.”
