Ten Permits Issued in Ohio’s Utica

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued 10 new permits for horizontal wells in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale during the week ended Dec. 9, according to the agency’s latest update.

Chesapeake Exploration LLC received three permits for wells in Harrison County, while Statoil USA Onshore was awarded three permits for wells in Monroe County.

Gulfport Energy Corp. received two permits for wells in Belmont County. CNX Gas and Ascent Resources secured single permits for wells in Monroe and Jefferson counties respectively.

The rig count in the Utica remained unchanged at 21 from the previous week, ODNR reported.

As of Dec. 9, ODNR has issued 2,703 permits in the Utica. Of that number, 2,187 wells have been drilled and 1,735 are in production.

There were no new permits issued in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana counties. And, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection reported no new permits in neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania.
