Mahoning County Tentative Property Values Now Available

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham has released the tentative market values for real estate reappraisals for the 2023 tax year.

The tentative values, which can be viewed on the county’s website or by calling 330 740 2758, do not include any adjustments for new CAUV soil values, new construction, demolition, splits or plats, or any Board of Revision decisions. The adjustments will be included in the Final Abstract sent to the state tax commissioner in November.

Ohio law requires all county auditors to establish a current value of real property once every six years. Ohio law defines fair market value as the price a property would likely sell for on the open market. Property is taxed at the assessed value, which is 35% of the fair market value.

Property tax amounts will be available in mid-January. An increase or decrease in property value does not mean there will be an equal increase or decrease in property taxes, a news release from the auditor’s office states.

The auditor will hold informal review sessions in October, and possibly in November, for taxpayers who want to speak to an appraiser regarding their new tentative value. Taxpayers can schedule a session through the auditor’s website or by calling 330 740 2758. The sessions will take place virtually or through a phone call.
