The Update | Ailey II Dance Troupe at YSU; Ski Chalet to Unveil Snowboard
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Ailey II, a modern dance troupe, will come to Youngstown State University’s Ford Theater at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17.
The performance is part of the Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series at YSU. Ford Theater is on the lower level of Bliss Hall, on Wick Avenue.
Founded in 1974 by Alvin Ailey and directed by Francesca Harper, the 12-member Ailey II brings spirit and energy to the stage.
“The dancers are spectacular artists with flawless technique who interpret cutting-edge choreography with extraordinary beauty,” said Phyllis Paul, dean of Cliffe College of Creative Arts at YSU.
Adult tickets are $35. Special rate tickets are $25 for non-YSU students, YSU faculty and staff with valid ID, YSU alums, senior citizens, Penguin Club members, and groups of eight or more. Ski Chalet to Unveil Snowboard at Penguin City
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ski Chalet’s annual winter kickoff party will take place Friday, Oct. 14, from 6-11 p.m. at Penguin City Brewing and will include the unveiling of the Youngstown Edition snowboard collaboration with K2, an American winter sports company, along with a Penguin City K2 tribute can, to celebrate the event.
The Ski Chalet is a skier and rider owned shop, located at 1041 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles.
K2 was born in 1962 as America’s ski company on Vashon Island in Washington State’s Puget Sound. It was renamed in 2003 as K2 Sports and is now based in Seattle. The Global President for K2 Sports, John Colonna, is a Mahoning Valley native who jumpstarted his career in the snowsports industry at The Ski Chalet and will be attending the event.
“Our vision for this design is a nod to the Steel Valley and the major manufacturers that helped shape our hometown,” said Ashley Hoff, manager of The Ski Chalet. “One of the focal points of our board depicts the old Republic Steel blooming ill in which our father/grandfather, Gene Hoff, was superintendent until the day it shut down.”
The Ski Chalet Ski Chalet is teaming up with Penguin City to host the kickoff party and to create a beer label to celebrate the collaboration. Michael Pontikos, brand manager, designed the label to complement the K2 Youngstown board. cans will be for sale at the taproom during the party.
The event will be a night of family fun with food trucks, a DJ, a silent auction with ski gear, and a winter fashion show at 8:30 p.m.
Three Tribute Band Shows Coming to Robins
WARREN, Ohio – Tickets will go on sale Friday for three newly announced tribute concerts coming to the Robins Theatre.
The shows are:
Into the Blue, an Electric Light Orchestra tribute show, with Evolution, an Eric Clapton tribute, Feb. 3.
ZYGRT, a tribute to Led Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis, Rush and Toto, Feb. 4.
Brass Metropolis, a tribute to Chicago, Feb. 17.

Taste of the Town Event Returns
NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The 19th annual Taste of the Town event, which offers food from Lawrence County’s finest restaurants and caterers, will take place Monday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the New Englander Banquet Center.
Preston Auto Group is the sponsor of this event.
Culinary students from the Lawrence County Career & Technical Center, along with students from the local high schools, will assist the restaurants and have a chance to show off their culinary training skills.
Proceeds will support over 40 United Way of Lawrence County programs. Door prizes will include gift certificates and donated items from local restaurants and businesses.
