The Update | Bert Kreischer at Covelli; ‘Spoon River’ Auditions; Brew Ha Ha Tickets

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Comedian Bert Kreischer will come to Covelli Centre on Oct. 6.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $99.75, $79.75, $59.75 and $39.75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14 at the box office and at ticketmaster.com (fees apply). The box office will be open Friday but there will be no on-site parking available that day because it is being used for Saturday’s Luke Bryan concert at Wean Park.

An online-only presale will take place Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; use the password RELAPSE.

Kreischer is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer and podcaster. His latest televised special, “Hey Big Boy,” as well as “Secret Time” and “The Machine” are currently streaming on Netflix. He recently debuted his new Netflix docu-series “The Cabin,”

which was the most-watched unscripted series on the platform the week it premiered.

Kreischer hosts the “Go-Big Show” with celebrity judges Snoop Dogg, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Nettles and Cody Rhodes.

Brew Ha Ha Tickets Are on Sale

YOUNGSTOWN— The Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and the Flight Crew will host this year’s Brew Ha Ha Summerfest at Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 6 to benefit children’s programs at the library. 

Local breweries participating are Paladin, Birdfish, Noble Creature, DOPE Cider House and Winery, Woodland Cellars, Biker BrewHouse, Penguin City, Modern Methods,

Ill Will, BrewLounge, and Sundog Ciderhouse and Winery.

The event will also feature music by DJ Chris and barbecue from Michael Alford of Barber Drive Catering and Graduation Tents. There will be a 50/50 raffle, raffle baskets, and prizes for the best breweries. Tickets are $45 per person/$80 a couple and can be purchased online through EventBrite. Attendees must be 21 years or older. 

Auditions for ‘Spoon River’ at Selah

STRUTHERS, Ohio – Selah Dessert Theater will have auditions for “Spoon River Anthology,” adapted for the stage by Charles Aidman from the book by Edgar Lee Masters. Actors will create the spirits of the departed from the fictional town of Spoon River, Illinois.

Performance dates are Oct. 27-30, and Nov. 4-5 and 11-12.

Director is Mary Ruth Lynn and music director is Anthony Ruggiero.

Audition dates are Saturday, July 16, from noon to 3 p.m.; and Sunday, July 17, from 6-9 p.m., at the theater, which is upstairs at Selah Restaurant.

The cast requires three adult women (to include one black female); three men (to include one black male); two vocalists (one male, one female) with an emphasis on folk music.

Actors should be prepared to perform a monologue from the piece – these are available online – or a monologue from a period piece, preferably free form poetry. Several monologues will be available at auditions for cold readings. Actors are not required to sing.

Vocalists be prepared to sing a traditional folk song, such as “Water Is Wide” or “Paper of Pins,” a capella.

Dancing With Paint Workshop at JCC

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will present a Dancing with Paint workshop for all ages from 5 to 6:30 p.m. July 17 at the JCC’s Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way.

Participants will use dance to create works of art on paper. This collaborative class between the JCC School of Dance and the JCC’s Paul and Yetta Gluck School of Visual Arts will give dancers and artists the chance to use their bodies as the paintbrush.
