McNally to Deliver Proclamation on Theater Anniversary

COLUMBUS, Ohio – State Rep. Lauren McNally, D-59th, will congratulate The Youngstown Playhouse on its 100th anniversary season by presenting a formal proclamation of the Ohio House of Representatives at a special event at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the South Side theater.

“Our community knows what a treasure The Youngstown Playhouse is,” McNally said. “Whether it was in the 1920s when they were starting, or now, they’ve recognized and provided local arts entertainment that’s accessible to our neighbors, which has been invaluable.”

One of the oldest ongoing community theaters in the country, The Youngstown Playhouse began in 1924.

With the passage of House Bill 2, McNally successfully advocated for $238,000 in state funding to assist with the construction of a new roof at the Playhouse.

“I want to thank Rep. McNally for her continued commitment to the arts,” said John Cox, president of the Playhouse board of directors. “As we celebrate our 100th season, we vow to continue to offer Broadway-caliber entertainment and to support and educate our community.”
