The Update | Christmas Tree Arrives; Holiday Event at Lanterman’s Mill
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The city’s Christmas tree was delivered to Central Square, downtown, Friday morning.
The 30-foot tree was donated to the city by Bill West of Poland, who is the owner of Heck Ya! Hot dog shop on the East Side.
The tree will be lit at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, immediately after the annual holiday parade on Federal Street.
Christmas Event at Lanterman’s Mill
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Old Fashioned Christmas at the Mill will take place Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, at Lanterman’s Mill, off Canfield Road, in Mill Creek Park.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the family event is free.
The mill will be decked out in holiday finery. The event will include fire roasted chestnuts and vendors selling unique handcrafted gifts. Santa Claus will visit both days from noon to 2 p.m.
To share the holiday spirit with others, guests can bring a new hat, scarf or pair of mittens to decorate the Giving Tree. Donated items will warm up children and adults in need this winter.

Another annual event in the park will take place on the day after Thanksgiving. Mill Creek Golf Course Golf Shop’s annual black Friday sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 29. The shop is at 1 Golf Drive, Boardman.
Downtown Sharon Is Ready for Shoppers
SHARON, Pa. – Downtown Sharon will kick off its holiday shopping season on National Small Business Day, Saturday, Nov. 30.
A short ribbon-cutting ceremony will start the day at 10 a.m., with giveaways of 100 shopping totes filled with coupons and more. Contributors to the Sharon swag bags include: ACTS Performing Arts Center, Allie’s Sweet Tooth, the Buhl Club, CycleLife Studios, Daffin’s Candy, Firebean Espresso, Gifted at Applegate, Haitian Sensation, The Herald, Hope Center for Arts and Technology, Thyme in Your Kitchen, Penn Ohio Cigar, Giovanni’s, The Winner, discounts from Visit Mercer County and the Sharon CDC.

The return of the Downtown Shop Around will also begin on Small Business Saturday. Shoppers will be encouraged to make their way around and enter to win at participating businesses.
Collectively, Sharon businesses are giving away more than $3,000 in prizes, gift baskets and more.
Each store will host a box for entries, and winners will be announced Dec. 20.
Calendars Include Chance at Prizes
NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The Rotary Club of New Castle’s 10th annual calendar is available for purchase.
With the theme “Vintage Education and Religion (Year 1),” the calendar focuses on historic schools and religious buildings of New Castle.
According to the 1914 New Castle City Directory, there were 61 religious organizations and 20 schools (16 public and four parochial) in the city.
The calendars are numbered from 000-999 and will provide daily prizes all year based on the Pennsylvania Lottery’s three-digit evening number. All numbers are played straight as drawn, and daily awards are $25, except on five bonus days where winners receive between $100 and $500.

YSU Wind Ensemble in Free Concert
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s wind ensemble will present a concert titled “American Voices” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Tickets are $5 ($4 for seniors and students) and can be purchased at stambaughauditorium.com.
Directed by professor Michael Butler, the ensemble program will include “Amazing Grace” and “El Camino Real.”
Joining the 40-student ensemble will be Benjamin Hemming, a graduate conductor; Kate Ferguson, a guest conductor; and Caroline Oltmanns, a piano soloist and professor of music in the Dana School of Music.
