The Update | Columbiana Craft BeerFest; Oktoberfest at Penguin City

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – The Columbiana Craft BeerFest, dubbed the Clipper Sipper 2.0 – will take place Saturday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at TownCenter at Firestone Farms.

Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the gate, and include 10 tasting tickets and a 13-ounce master crafter tasting glass. Patrons must be at least 21 years old to enter.

Breweries represented at the event will include Aeonian, Birdfish, Biker BrewHouse, Blue Monkey, BrewLounge, Ill Will, Modern Methods, Noble Creature, Paladin Brewing and Platform.

Food trucks will include Auntie Anne’s Pretzel Truck, Mary’s Pizza, Homestead Kitchen & Cocktails and Tra’s Gourmet Sandwiches.

Vendors will include Barking Squirrel Farms, Creations by Sheena Marie, Cut & Toast Premium Cigars, Goodness Grows, Kalina’s Restoration & Woodshop, Mary Ann’s Homemade Chocolates, Moonlight Baking Co., Our Farm Skin Care, Pewter Peddler and Vavrock Woodworks.

Live music will be provided by Leanne Binder, Whatevr and Gypsy Cowboys.

Fat Axxes mobile axe throwing lounge will be on the site (five throws for $5, 10 for $8; closed toed shoes required).

Proceeds benefit the Firestone Stadium restoration project.

Oktoberfest at Penguin City Brewing

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Penguin City Brewing, downtown, will present an Oktoberfest celebration Saturday, Sept. 23, from noon to 11 p.m.

The event will include music by Del Sinchak and German-inspired food, plus 16 vendors, games and beer.

Cultural Alliance Presents Africa Program

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mahoning Valley Cultural Alliance will present Africa: Culture and Cuisine on Monday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. at Tyler History Center, downtown.

Admission is $30 for Mahoning Valley Historical Society members and $35 for nonmembers. Reservations are required; call MVHS at 330 743 2589 by Sept. 26.

The speaker will be Rev. Kenneth Donaldson, pastor of The Rising Star Church in Youngstown. 

A Fresh Wind Catering will provide food, and a gospel group led by Jimmy Smith will perform.

The Culture and Cuisine series is coordinated by the Mahoning Valley Cultural Alliance, an advisory group under the umbrella of MVHS.

Formal-attire Fundraiser for Dog Rescue

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Every Dog Matters Rescue will present A Night in Disguise Masquerade Ball on Oct. 14, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish center.

Those who attend this adults-only fundraising affair are asked to wear formal attire.

Tickets are $60 per person or $450 for a table of eight. All proceeds from ticket sales and the auctions will directly benefit Every Dog Matters mission to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs.

Trick or Treat Event Returns to Eastwood Field

NILES, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ annual Trick or Treat at Eastwood Field will take place Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event, now in its 25th year, is a fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween for children age 12 and under.  

Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the Scrappers box office at Eastwood Field. Quantities are limited. Children and adults must each have a ticket.

Anyone who donates canned goods at the event for Feed Our Valley will receive a free general admission Scrappers ticket valid during the 2024 season.

Returning for the 2024 Trick or Treat event is the Fast Pass. Only 100 will be sold. It includes admission for one child and two adults. Fast Pass allows the bearer to skip the line and get in at 5:45 p.m. The Fast Pass is $10.

The Scrappers are looking for area businesses to participate in this year’s Trick or Treat event. Businesses will receive table space at Eastwood Field. Vendor space can be reserved HERE.
