The Update | Concert Series Includes Texas Tenors

WARREN, Ohio – The Warren Civic Music Association’s 2024-2025 season will include The Texas Tenors and five other artists.

All concerts start at 7 p.m. at Packard Music Hall. Season tickets are $145. Single-event tickets are $45 and available at ticketmaster.com or the box office. For information, go to warrencivicmusic.com or call 330 399 4885.

  • Sept. 18: Sweet Dreams … Mandy Barnett sings Patsy Cline.

  • April 8: Ernie Haase & Signature Sound.
  • May 1: Louis Prima Jr. and The Witnesses.

Crowder Coming to Packard Music Hall

WARREN, Ohio – Christian music artist Crowder will come to Packard Music Hall on Sept. 16.

Tickets range from $100 to $30 (plus applicable fees) and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, at ticketmaster.com and the Packard box office.

An online-only presale will start at 10 a.m. Thursday; use the password Packard.

Crowder started his career as lead singer of the David Crowder Band in 1986 and went solo in 2012. His latest album, “Milk and Honey,” was released in 2021.

Celebrity Portraits Exhibit to Open at The Hoyt

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – An exhibition of celebrity portraits painted by Ohio artist Susan Jacobs opens July 2 at The Hoyt and will run through Aug. 29.

Jacobs started creating the art during the pandemic and quickly amassed quite a few. She had a drive-through exhibit in her front yard that attracted media coverage.

The portraits include David Bowie, John Lennon, Audrey Hepburn, Willie Nelson, Barbara Streisand, Elizabeth Taylor, Johnny Cash and many more.

Originally from Hermitage, Jacobs moved to Ohio after receiving a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University. She taught at Mathews Local Schools for nearly 30 years and was the lead singer for the rock band most recently called Boulevard for nearly 29 years. The popular group played local clubs around the Mahoning Valley and in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. 

Jacobs currently serves as an adjunct professor at Ashland University and an instructor for the MidWestern Intermediate Unit IV. She offers classes from her home studio in fused glass jewelry, painting and drawing, and is the owner of dog biscuit company Blissful Biscuits. Her work can be found at susanjacobsart.com.

An artist’s reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. July 11 at The Confluence in downtown New Castle. Admission is free.

Kast Iron Soda Works Receives $10K Grant

SALEM, Ohio – Kast Iron Soda Works has received a $10,000 Backing Small Businesses enhancement grant through American Express and Main Street America.

The craft soda shop on State Street, downtown, will use the money to remodel its rear entrance and add a patio and seating.

Kast Iron is one of 500 small businesses nationwide to receive the grant. It now has the opportunity to apply for an additional $30,000 enhancement grant that will be awarded to 25 small businesses.

BeerFest Unveils Music Lineup

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – Columbiana Craft BeerFest’s music lineup will include Leanne Binder, Leo D’Angelo and the Dead Foxes.

The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21 at TownCentre at Firestone Farms. Proceeds will benefit the Columbiana playground project.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the gate and include 10 tasting tickets and a 13-ounce master crafter tasting glass. Guests must be at least age 21 to enter. Ten brewers will take part in the event.

Fireworks Displays in Lawrence County

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Fireworks displays will take place throughout Lawrence County this summer. 

Here is the schedule:

  • June 28-30: Ellwood City Festival, with fireworks at 10 p.m. June 30, Helling Stadium, Ewing Park, Ellwood City, Pa.
  • July 3: Independence Day at Brittain Lake, with fireworks at 9:15 p.m., Westminster College, 319 S. Market St., New Wilmington, Pa.
  • July 4: Pearson Park Independence Day Celebration, with fireworks at 10 p.m., Pearson Park, 179 Pearson Park Drive, New Castle, Pa.
  • July 4-7: Red, White & Blue at Mines & Meadows, with fireworks July 6, 1307 Old Route 18, Wampum, Pa.
  • July 12-14: Slovenefest, with fireworks at dusk July 13 at SNPJ Recreation Center, 270 Martin Road, Enon Valley, Pa.
  • July 19-21: Summer Throw Down at Mines & Meadows, with fireworks at 10:05 p.m. Saturday.
  • July 20: Enon Valley Community Day, with fireworks at 10 p.m.
  • July 20: Fireworks Fest, with fireworks at 10 p.m., downtown New Castle, Pa.
  • Aug. 10: Americans with Disabilities Act Celebration, Cascade Park, 1928 E. Washington St., New Castle, Pa.
  • Aug. 12-17: Lawrence County Fair, with fireworks at dusk Aug. 17. The fairgrounds are at 464 Midway Road, New Castle, Pa.
