The Update | Aretha and Smokey Tribute at Westminster; Summer Theater Seeks Student Actors
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Cruising Steady: The Music & Friendship of Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson will come to Orr Auditorium at Westminster College at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 5.
The show, which is part of the college’s Celebrity Series, stars Broadway actors Patrice Covington (“The Color Purple”) and Jesse Nager (“Motown”). It explores the friendship and music careers of Franklin and Robinson and features hits such as “Respect,” “I Second The Emotion,” “Chain of Fools,” “Ooh Baby Baby,” “Natural Woman,” “My Girl” and many more.

Summer Theater Program Auditions
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auditions for The Youngstown Playhouse’s production of “A Wickedly Good Showcase,” the 2022 Youth Valley Players Showcase, will take place Thursday, April 28 from 4-7 p.m. in the Adler Art Academy at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St.
The showcase is a free summer theater program for local high school students. Under the leadership of director Tyler Moliterno and education coordinator Emelia Sherin, students will create a full-length, original revue of scenes and songs that center around the Broadway favorite “Wicked.” Participation is free and open to incoming and outgoing high school students, ages 12 to 18.
Students interested in auditioning should prepare 32 bars that showcase their talent and personality, a cappella. Students will also be asked to do a cold reading from a script. Walk-ins will be accepted.
Rehearsals will take place in the Adler Art Academy June 1-10.

Student Art Exhibition at MCCTC
CANFIELD, Ohio – Artwork from students in 18 high schools in Mahoning and Columbiana counties will be on display Tuesday, May 3, at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center from 4 to 8 p.m.
Artwork will be judged in 22 categories, including pencil and ink drawing, watercolor, sculpture/architectural models, photography, fiber arts/textile design, ceramics/glass.
