The Update | ‘Evil Dead’ at Salem Theater; Pizza Joe’s Offers Treat for Food Drive

SALEM, Ohio – Salem Community Theatre will again present “Evil Dead” for the Halloween season.

The campy and blood-splattered musical, based on the film series, will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29, and again on Nov. 4 and 5.

No one under the age of 16 will be admitted unless accompanied by an adult. Salem Community Theatre is at 490 E. State St.

Food Donors Can Receive Seasonal Treat

NEW CASTLE, PA – Pizza Joe’s has joined the pumpkin spice craze with its new pumpkin spice cinna-stix, available through December.

The seasonal offering turns Pizza Joe’s classic cinna-stix into a pumpkin pie-like treat for the holidays. The regional pizza chain will collect nonperishable items Nov. 13 to Nov. 30 at all locations. Customers donating five or more items will receive a free order of the new pumpkin spice cinna-stix with a purchase.

“During the season of giving, we want to provide our customers an easy way to donate and gift them a sweet treat for their generosity,” said Katie Seminara-DeToro, of  Pizza Joe’s corporate office.

The nonperishable donations will be given to various organizations, including the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Second Harvest of the Mahoning Valley, and the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County. Some of the most needed items include canned vegetables, canned soups, peanut butter, canned tuna, rice, pasta, cereal, laundry detergent, dish soap, toothpaste, diapers and toilet paper.

Autism Society Fall Festival

HUBBARD, Ohio — Autism Awareness Training and Acceptance Program (AATAP) and the Autism Society of Mahoning Valley (ASMV) will present the fourth annual Fall Festival and Special Needs Resource Fair event on Saturday, Oct. 29, from noon to 3 p.m. at Cornerhouse Christian Church, 6954 Chestnut-Ridge Road.

The event will include:

  • First responders and their emergency vehicles.
  • Information about special needs/disability community resources in the Mahoning Valley.
  • Trunk or Treat, at which attendees can dress in costume and receive treats.
  • Face painting, games, giveaways and special guests.
  • A basket auction and 50/50 to raise funds for AATAP.

Holiday Fun Day at Butler Museum

YOUNGSTOWN – The Butler Institute of American Art will have a holiday family day on Nov. 13, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

At the event, which is free to the public, children will be able to make holiday ornaments, go on scavenger hunts with their parents, decorate cookies, get their face painted, visit with Santa and meet the Grinch Santa.

Louis A. Zona, director of the museum, said the day will allow families to experience fascinating art and ring in the holiday season.
