The Update | Fall Festivals on Saturday in Warren, Youngstown; Nitro Circus Coming to Covelli
WARREN, Ohio – Oktoberfest on the Square will take place from 4 to 8 p.m Saturday, Sept. 14, on Courthouse Square, downtown.
A fundraiser for the Trumbull County Historical Society, the event will include 24 local businesses as well as seven Ohio breweries (Modern Methods, Paladin, Noble Creature, The 1547 Project, Birdfish, Dope and Biker Brewhouse).
Events will include grape stomping, pony rides and a stein holding competition.
Babcia’s Lunchbox, West and Main and Cockeye Creamery will sell food and ice cream. The Youngstown Saxon Brass Band will provide music.
Presale tickets are available for $30 until Friday and include a German inspired meal and two drink tickets. A discounted $15 ticket is available for children ages 12 to 20. Children under age 12 are admitted free. Adult tickets are $35 when purchased at the door. Purchase tickets HERE.
Mahoning Avenue Fall Fest Returns Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The eighth annual Mahoning Avenue Fall Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, along Mahoning Avenue between Steel Street and Milton Avenue on the West Side.
The event, sponsored by city Councilman Mike Ray and the Economic Action Group, will spotlight the businesses along the corridor. It will also feature a vendor’s market, corn roast, safe streets demonstration and kids activities. Trek Coffee House, Casa Ramirez and Paisley House, which will be giving free tours and hot dogs, are among the event’s main sponsors.
There will be live music in The Freightyard, behind Trek, and local organizations will provide free food and information.
The first 350 people at the event will receive a commemorative Fall Fest mug from one of the participating businesses.
The festival celebrates everything Mahoning Avenue has to offer and the opportunities that residents and local partners have to improve the community.
Nitro Circus Coming to Covelli Centre
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Nitro Circus, a BMX bicycle and motorcycle stunt show, will come to Covelli Centre on Nov. 26.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster.com.
Nitro Circus’ roster features top athletes like Australian Ryan “R Willy” Williams, the holder of more than 100 “world’s firsts” on both scooter and bike and one of the most viral sports figures on social media. Joining him are Adam Jones, a six-time X-Games medalist in Freestyle Motocross, and Andy Buckworth, a BMX icon and the first rider to successfully land the superman double front flip.
The show will include high-flying stunts and showdowns in Freestyle Motocross, Skate, BMX, Scooter and Crazy Contraptions.
Artists of The Loop Exhibit Works at Tyler
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A new exhibit featuring artists of The Loop Youngstown has opened at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.
The exhibit features work by the artists of The Loop. The group’s mission is to feature local artists and purchase an arts and cultural center with studios, classes, rehearsals, performances, offices, galleries, artist mentoring and residencies.
The Tyler History Center is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
Davis YMCA Art Show Accepting Submissions
BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Davis Family YMCA’s annual “But I Know What I Like” art show will open Oct. 6 and run through Nov. 10.
Submissions will be accepted from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept 27, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept 28, at the Davis YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.
All art must be family friendly and created by adult artists in the tri-county area. The judges are nonprofessionals in keeping with the spirit of the show: “I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like.”
Cash prizes will be awarded at the opening reception.

Works by Columbus Artist at Solomon Gallery
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – “Domestic Instinct,” an exhibition of works by artist Katie Davis, will open Sept. 20 in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery, located in Youngstown State University’s Bliss Hall.
Davis’ exhibit explores the creative power that can be found in domestic spaces and the everyday materials of human lives. She is interested in the transformation of mundane materials into something new through the use of the visual language of painting and abstraction.
“These paintings push the boundaries of what a painting can be while infusing everyday objects with joy, playfulness and all the messy, raw layers of domestic life,” Davis said.
Davis is an assistant professor at the Columbus College of Art & Design.
Admission is free. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
MVHS Director to Discuss Organization’s Past
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is celebrating its 150th anniversary through September 2025 with events that look back on the area’s past.
Up next will be a Bites and Bits of History lecture Thursday, Sept. 16. Bill Lawson, MVHS executive director, will discuss the founding of the organization and shed light on its future.
Guests can bring a lunch for the presentation, which will take place at noon in the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown. Admission is free.
Smartphone Moviemaking Class at Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Westminster College’s School of Communication is inviting community members to its Smartphone Moviemaking Workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in Dietz Sullivan Hall in Hoyt Science Center.
Participants will engage in a series of practical sessions led by experienced filmmakers. The workshop will cover essential topics such as movie planning, shot organization and filming techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring their smartphones so they can learn how the use of tripods, monopods and lights can enhance the quality of their videos.
Participants can learn how to edit with CapCut or Splice apps during the optional post-production workshop and screening session from 2 to 5 p.m. The afternoon session will also provide an opportunity for screening work and receiving feedback.
Lunch is included in the workshop, as well as free T-shirts and ice cream.
The workshop, which is open to the public, is designed to complement the Titan Film Festival: The Thriller Edition, and participants are welcome to use the session to develop their original entries for the festival.
There is a registration fee of $20 for adults and $10 for students. The fee is waived for first-year Westminster College students and those with financial need. An adult must accompany participants under age 15. Registration is required by Friday, Sept. 13.

Car Show at Hollywood Gaming
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Man Up Mahoning Valley’s annual Fuel the Fight car show will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, 655 N. Canfield-Niles Road.
The family-friendly event will feature hundreds of collector cars and trucks. It raises awareness for prostate cancer prevention and detection.
The Man Up Mahoning Valley campaign was designed to educate men and their loved ones about the need for early detection and prostate cancer prevention.
