The Update | Fall Foliage Color Nears Peak; Haunted Car Wash

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nature’s fall color show is coming to fruition in the Buckeye State, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Near peak and peak conditions are being reported by fall foliage color reporters statewide.

“It looks like we are nearing prime fall color viewing in the Buckeye State,” ODNR forester David Parrott said. “We are hoping that the leaves stay strong on the trees through the wind and rain over the weekend and the projected forecast this week. These next two weeks look to be ideal for seeing fall colors. Be on the lookout for hickories showing their golden browns and sweetgums dazzling their purples and bright reds.”

Because of the construction on state Route 46, the Howland location will not have a Haunted Car Wash this year.

All donations will benefit the Melina Michelle Edenfield Foundation to help find a cure for pediatric brain tumors.

Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Applications are being accepted for the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit program, according to the state development department.

The program provides a refundable tax credit of 30 percent on cast and crew wages plus other eligible in-state spending for eligible productions, which include feature-length films, documentaries, pre-Broadway productions, miniseries, video games and music videos.

“From the beautiful shores of Lake Erie to the rolling hills of Appalachia Ohio, our state offers incredible destinations to be the setting of your next film or show,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “We have diverse, big cities and charming small towns that all offer something unique to out-of-state producers and Ohio creatives alike.”

More than $27 million is available this round, and applications are accepted online until 5 p.m. Dec. 1. Projects will be awarded on or before Jan. 31.

“The Wise Guys,” starring Robert De Niro, was previously funded by the tax credit. Scheduled to be released in 2024, “The Wise Guys” was filmed in Greene County and the greater Cincinnati area in December 2022. The film was awarded a $16.2 million tax credit in July 2022 and will receive the credits upon completion.

Applications are reviewed and awarded in two rounds annually. There is $50 million available each year, evenly divided between the two rounds, plus any rollover amounts from the preceding period.

Of the $50 million, $5 million per year, or $2.5 million per round, in tax credits is designated specifically for Broadway/theatrical productions. These tax credits can be rolled into future rounds if they go unused.

Projects are awarded first to television series or miniseries, then to all others, based on the extent of positive economic impact in Ohio and the effect on developing a permanent workforce in motion picture or theatrical production industries in Ohio.
