The Update | Free Tenors Tickets for First Responders; Pizza Challenge Returns

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Westminster College is offering first responders two free tickets to the April 6 concert by The New York Tenors in Orr Auditorium. 

Police officers, emergency medical technicians, firefighters and all other first responders can reserve tickets by calling Georgene Gib, box office manager, at 724 946 7354.

The New York Tenors are Andy Cooney, Daniel Rodriguez and Christopher Macchio. 

Slice of the Valley Pizza Challenge Returns

NILES, Ohio – The 2024 Slice of the Valley Pizza Challenge will take place Sunday, April 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Eastwood Event Centre.

The event, sponsored by Rotary Club of Warren, benefits several local charities.

Guests will be able to sample pizza from several local shops. The winners will be selected by a panel of celebrity judges, including Kelly Holcomb, former Cleveland Browns quarterback; Sean Peebles, Cleveland Cavaliers announcer; Preston Steele, professional wrestler; Dan Rivers, radio host; Stan Boney, television newscaster; and Jeremy and Gracie Okloda of Youngstown Pizza Reviews.

Also returning this year is the craft beer competition. Competing will be Biker Brewhouse, Noble Creature and Birdfish Brewing.

Newly added is the Kings of the Wing competition. Seven vendors are currently signed up for the wing competition, including The Underground Lounge, The Rig and Buffalo Wild Wings. 

All proceeds will benefit Boy Scouts of America Great Trail Council, Riverside Park, Special Olympics Ohio and the Trumbull County Historical Society.

Tickets are $15 per adult (includes three slices of pizza), and $5 per child (includes two slices of pizza). Additional slices of pizza can be purchased for $2 each. Go to sliceofthevalley.com to purchase in advance. Tickets will be available at the door the day of the event.

Scrappers Reading Club Seeks Members

NILES, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are partnering with the Warren-Trumbull Public Library to reward local children for reading with Scrappy’s Scholars Reading Club during the 2024 season.

It is free to join the program, which is intended for individual kids and families, classrooms, homeschools, day cares and kids clubs. 

Students who read six books can bring their completed Reading Club Bookmark to the box office in exchange for two free general admission tickets to a Reading Club Recognition game on June 8, July 5, July 21, Aug. 4 or Aug. 16. 

The Scrappers will honor Scrappy’s Scholars Reading Club students on the field before each game.

Fitch High School Presents Musical ‘Grease’

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – the Fitch High School Drama Club will present “Grease” tonight through Sunday, March 24, in the school auditorium. 

Performances will start at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $15 ($10 for students; free for veterans and active military) and can be purchased at the door or in advance by clicking HERE.

Eclipse Viewing at Grove City College

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College’s physics department will present an eclipse viewing event April 8 on the campus’ quad between Harbison Chapel and Crawford Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. 

Free eclipse viewing glasses will be offered. The event will feature light-filtering telescopes to provide a close-up view, a live telescopic feed of the eclipse and faculty experts and knowledgeable students on hand to explain what is going on in the sky. 

The event, like the eclipse, begins at 2 p.m. and runs until 4:30 p.m. when the moon completes its traverse across the sun. It will reach the point of maximum obscuration around 3:15 p.m.
