The Update | ‘Grease’ at Trumbull Theater; Jazz in the Park Series Returns

NILES, Ohio – Trumbull New Theatre, 5883 Youngstown Road, will present “Grease” for two weekends, beginning July 8.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. July 8, 9, 15 and 16; and 2 p.m. July 17. Tickets are $20 ($18 for students) and can be purchased in advance at trumbullnewtheatre.tix.com.

Ron Sinesio is directing the musical, with Liz Conrad as assistant director.

Michele Stoutemire is musical director and Kait Butler is choreographer.

The crew also consists of stage manager Ali Limperos, set designer Thomas Engstrom, set designer Thomas Engstrom.

The band consists of Robin Sanders, Luke Rider and Craig Conrad.

The cast includes Landon Talbert (Danny Zuko), Nathaniel Ams (Kenickie), Lauren Jones (Sandy) and Lohgan Talbert (Rizzo.

Jazz Concert Series Begins at Wick Park

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The annual Jazz in the Park summer concert series, now in its 31st year, will resume this month. All concerts take place Sunday afternoon, from 3-7 p.m., in Wick Park, on the North Side. Admission is free.

Festival to Raise Money for Veterans

GIRARD – Iron Mann Bar and Grille, 1762 N. State St., will present Iron Fest July 14-16, to raise money for Dress, Right, Dress, a group that assists service members and veterans through hardships.

On July 14, No Funk No Justice will perform at 4 p.m. with a guest appearance by Baxter Burgundy featuring Hoss.

Bad Juju will take the stage at 7 p.m. July 15, and Franchise Band will play at 7 p.m. July 16.

There is no cover charge and there will be many giveaways.

‘Sister Act’ Auditions for Playhouse

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Playhouse will have auditions for its fall production of “Sister Act” on July 25 and 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Adler Art Academy at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, downtown. Those unable to attend can submit a video via email to [email protected].

The comedy is based on the 1992 Touchstone Pictures film “Sister Act.”

The director is seeking actors 18 years or older. Actors should be prepared to learn and execute a group dance routine and bring

comfortable clothing and footwear for movement. Actors should prepare two contrasting traditional musical theater songs; auditionees should prepare a 16-bar cutting of a vocal selection, but be prepared to sing the entire number if asked. All slides for speaking parts will be provided.

The creative team is led under the direction of Emma Wason. Rehearsals will begin Aug. 1 and take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Performances will take place September 23-25 and Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

The Youngstown Playhouse is committed to an inclusive casting process and encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities to submit.

Friendly Squares Schedule Monthly Dance

NILES – The Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance, Saturday, July 9, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Niles Scope Center, 14 E. State St. Gene Hammond will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will cue line dances. This will be a plus dance. Dress is casual. There is a $6 donation per person at the door.
