Amazing History Race Returns

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Amazing History Race will return Aug. 9.

Now in its 10th year, the popular scavenger-hunt-meets-road-trip tests participants’ knowledge of local history.

Teams will meet at Tyler History Center, downtown, at 5 p.m. and begin the race at 5:30 p.m. Prior to setting out, each team will receive a set of clues directing them to six historic sites in the Mahoning Valley.

The first team that returns with all of the sites correctly identified wins the Amazing History Race trophy. Participants will need a smartphone or digital camera to record the landmarks.

Racers will return to the Arms Family Museum on Wick Avenue, where MVHS staff and volunteers will check and verify the photos. After that, a casual outdoor pizza party with soft drinks, snacks and water will take place.

The cost is $8 per person; $6 for seniors age 60 and up and students age 5 to 13. Children age 4 and under will be admitted free.
