The Update | Kaplan Duo in Four-handed Piano Concert

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The Kaplan Duo will perform a four-handed piano concert – the two will be seated together on the same bench – at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Hoyt Center for the Arts.

The duo consists of sisters Nanette Kaplan Solomon and Iris Kaplan Rosenthal.

Nanette was accepted to the Juilliard School Pre-College Division when she was 9 years old. Iris followed soon after.

As girls, they battled for practice time on the one piano in their Long Island, N.Y., home. Later, they pursued their own careers in piano with equal success.

The program, titled “Baroque to Blues,” will feature a special arrangement of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its premiere.

The concert will take place in the intimate hall of the Alex Crawford Hoyt period house. Reservations are required at $25 per seat and can be made by calling 724 652 2882.
