The Update | Kennywood, Cedar Point Hiring; Theater Offers Love-Themed Cabaret

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Kennywood amusement park will open for the season Saturday, April 22. Its sister parks, Idlewild-SoakZone and Sandcastle Waterpark, will open May 20 and May 27, respectively.

Kennywood will introduce its 125th Celebration Weekends event, starting opening day. Daily summer operation begins Memorial Day weekend, along with the launch of Spinvasion, the first ride of its kind in the United States. Summertime will also feature the return of night rides with 10 p.m. closes on select days and an expanded Bites and Pints Food & Drink Festival in June and July. Plus, there will be Passholder Perk Days each month all year long. Phantom Fall Fest and Holiday Lights will cap the season.

All three parks are now accepting applications to fill more than 2,000 positions for the upcoming season.

Applicants must be at least 14 years old. Apply online or attend one of the two in-person job fairs, scheduled for March 11 and April 1.

Cedar Point Launches Hiring Effort

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Cedar Point plans to hire 7,000 seasonal workers for the 2023 season, which begins in May.

Most jobs will be filled during a weeklong hiring blitz Feb. 18-24. For information, go to cedarpoint.com/jobs.

Hourly pay ranges from $14 to $17 (for those who are age 16 or older), based on experience, prior service and position. Perks include discounts, reward and recognition programs, flexible scheduling, exclusive associate-only events, ride nights, on-site housing for those who qualify and free admission to any Cedar Fair park.

Cedar Point will host in-person job fairs at Sawmill Creek Resort, the EHOVE Career Center and the Cedar Point Recruiting Center throughout the week. Interested candidates will have the ability to apply, interview and get hired the same day.

Millennial Theatre Presents Love-Themed Cabaret

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Millennial Theatre Company and Hopewell Theatre will present an original love-themed cabaret, one night only, on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Hopewell Theatre, 702 Mahoning Ave. 

“Lovesick: A Rom-Com Gone Wrong” cabaret is all about love, featuring songs from musicals.

The cast includes Nate Beagle, Kristen Dubic, John Cruz, Kathie Steeb, Beni El-Dalati, Katie Jerome-Taylor and Connor Bezeredi.

The cabaret was created and directed by Cruz.

Students Will be Docents at The Butler

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown City Schools students who participated in The Butler Institute of American Art’s Young Docent student workshop will serve at museum docents Feb. 11. They will share a painting with family and friends beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The workshop was sponsored by The Butler and the Youngstown chapter of The Links Inc. in recognition of Black History Month.
