Geocaching Event in Trumbull County
WARREN, Ohio – The Ohio Geocaching Association will present GeoClash Weekend at Courthouse Square.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 9, and run through the Saturday.
Each day will include a cache-finding event in the area.
Geocaching is a low-cost, family-friendly scavenger hunt that uses a cell phone’s GPS to find hidden caches.
Organizers of GeoClash 2022 have hidden an additional 300 new geocaches to be discovered across Trumbull County. All of the cache locations will go live simultaneously during the opening ceremony.
Residents are invited to participate and learn more about geocaching with no registration fees or requirements. They can meet experienced geocachers who will help them get started. Every cache found will earn a ticket which can be entered into the grand prize drawing. The drawing will occur during the closing ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, again at Courthouse Square.
Geocaching is an activity that involves hunting for hidden items stored in a container called a “cache” using GPS coordinates. Participants can either use a dedicated GPS or a smartphone to find these caches. Each physical cache has a paper log to sign and can include other items as well. Caches can contain trackable items for participants to pass on to a new geocache location or SWAG items (Stuff We All Get) such as small toys or key chains.
As part of the GeoClash Weekend, volunteers will have a Mahoning River cleanup day. Interested persons can meet at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 12, at Perkins Park, behind Warren City Hall.
