The Update | Mother’s Day Play at Salem; Handel’s Offers Carrot Cake Ice Cream

SALEM, Ohio – The Salem Community Theatre will present the comedy “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” for three performances on Mother’s Day weekend.

Curtain times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 10-11; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12.

Tickets are $14 and available in advance at salemcommunitytheatre.org and at the door. All seating is general admission.

“Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” by Alan Ball, looks in on five very different bridesmaids who find themselves hiding together in an upstairs bedroom, hoping to escape the wedding reception of a bride that none of them really like.

These five identically dressed women talk, laugh, argue, cry, console one another and slowly become friends.

Holly Hanna is directing the production.

This show has adult themes and is for audience members age 18 and older.

Handel’s Offers Carrot Cake Ice Cream

CANFIELD, Ohio – Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has created a new take on carrot cake. 

A limited run of its newest flavor, Carrot Cake, is now available at all locations until May 30.

Motown Musical Revue at Robins Theatre

WARREN, Ohio – Shadows of the ’60s: A Tribute to Motown’s Super Groups will come to the Robins Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday, May 10.

Tickets range from $39 to $49 (plus applicable fees) and are available at robinstheatre.com and at the box office, 160 E. Market St.

Shadows of the ’60s pays tribute to legendary stars such as The Supremes, The Four Tops and Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight & The Pips and The Marvelettes.

The interactive and visually stunning production features hits that span several decades. The performers are dressed in the costumes of the original stars and also use their choreography.

‘Here on the Flight Path’ at Playhouse

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – “Here on the Flight Path” will open a two-weekend run Friday, May 10, in the Moyer Room of The Youngstown Playhouse.

Ben Gavitt is directing the play.

Written by Norm Foster, “Here on the Flight Path” is a comedy about a man named John who leads a quiet life in his fourth-floor apartment. His quietude is interrupted by the women who move into the adjoining apartment.

John has a series of conversations with each of the three women, which allows him to grow in ways he never imagined.

The cast includes Brendan Boyle, Terri Norling, Jenna Cintavey and Jaclyn-Sarah Senich.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Summer Movie Series at Wean Park

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The 2024 Youngstown Summer Movie Series will run from June through August at Wean Park, downtown.

Movies are on Monday nights at 9 p.m., with the exception of July 5. In case of rain, the movie will be shown the next day. Concessions will be sold by Rayen Early College National Honor Society.

Here is the schedule:

  • June 24: “Trolls Band Together” (2023).
  • July 1: “Top Gun Maverick” (2022).
  • July 5: “Barbie” (2023); this will be part of the First Friday event and will take place at Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre.
  • July 15: “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984).
  • July 22: “Shrek 2” (2004).
  • July 29: “Jaws 2” (1978).
  • Aug. 5: “The Little Mermaid” (2023).

Laughter in Tandem Coming to Ford Recital Hall

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Laughter in Tandem, a comedy show featuring Donita Nose and Super Tekla, with special guest Bryan Termulo, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Ford Family Recital Hall, downtown.
