The Update | Museums Set Holiday Schedules; Chipotle Location Opens; Hoyt Offers Classes

YOUNGSTOWN – The Arms Family Museum and the Tyler History Center will be closed Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 24 and 25, for the Christmas holiday.

Arms Family Museum will be open on Monday, Dec. 26, from noon to 4 p.m., offering an extra day to visit the Memories of Christmas Past exhibition. Tyler History Center will not be open that day.

Arms Family Museum will be open during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from noon to 4 p.m.; and on Thursday, Dec. 29, and Saturday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve) from noon to 7 p.m.

Tyler History Center will be open that week, Tuesday through Saturday (New Year’s Eve), from noon to 4 p.m.

Both Mahoning Valley Historical Society sites will be closed New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1.

Chipotle Opens New Location in Liberty

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A new Chipotle Mexican Grill location opens today at 4100 Belmont Ave.

It is the second Youngstown area Chipotle location to feature a Chipotlane – a drive-thru pickup lane – that allows customers to pick up digital orders without leaving their cars.   

Classes and Workshops at Hoyt

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Arts & Education at the Hoyt is offering a selection of classes and workshops for all ages Jan. 10 to March 14.

Teens and adults can choose from 6- to 8-week courses in ceramics, drawing, stained glass, graphic design, painting, watercolor, DSLR photography, harp, voice and yoga; or opt for one-day workshops in mosaics, stained glass, paper quilling, paper marbling,s tring art and smartphone photography and editing.  Some classes such as ceramics, stained glass and photography permit studio use outside of class time.

Artists interested in entering the Hoyt Regional, or other upcoming juried art competitions, might want to mark their calendars for Jan. 21.  On that day, the Ready, Set, Show workshop from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. will guide participants in developing an appealing fine art portfolio by exploring tips and tricks to photograph their work. Bring the items you wish to photograph along with an SD card and flash drive. The workshop is free to Hoyt artist members, and $35 for nonmembers. 

Eight-week courses in ceramics and drawing or one day “Art’s Club” experiences in mixed media and paint will also be offered.

Stephanie Presnar, a certified special education teacher, will also offer a sensory-friendly workshop for youth on the autism spectrum on on Thursday, Jan. 12, from 4:30-6 p.m. If you home school, these classes are eligible for reimbursement through the PA Cyber School.

Scholarships are available for all ages covering 25-100% of tuition and materials fees; complete the application at hoytartcenter.org/scholarships. Once a household’s application is approved, any member of the household can take advantage of the award for the remainder of the fiscal year.
