The Update | Novelist David Baldacci at Library Event; ‘Why Me?’ Play at Ford Hall

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – David Baldacci, a best-selling author, will be the celebrity guest of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County’s annual fundraiser event Sept. 21.

The event, which will take place at the Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., will begin with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner, a presentation and question and answer session with Baldacci. Tickets are $150 and include a signed Baldacci novel.

Tickets will go on sale HERE at noon Aug. 15. All proceeds will benefit the Library Foundation literacy programs and future author events, as well as the Carol A. Bacon Fund.

Baldacci published his first novel, “Absolute Power,” in 1996. The feature film adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star.

Baldacci has published 47 novels for adults, and all have been national and international bestsellers, plus seven for young adults.

Several have been adapted for film and television. He has sold 150 million copies of his books worldwide.

Forney’s ‘Why Me?’ Play at Ford Hall

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – “Why Me?,” a play by Valley-based playwright and director Michael Anthony Forney, will be presented Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Ford Family Recital Hall in the DeYor Performing Arts Center, downtown.

Sound Waves Music Fest at Birdfish Brewing

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – The Sound Waves and IPAs music festival, featuring 10 bands, will take place Saturday, July 22, at Birdfish Brewing.

The event, now in its second year, is in support of The Summit FM Music Alive program. Used musical instruments and monetary donations will be accepted. All proceeds will be given to Youngstown City Schools.

Music will take place from noon to 10 p.m. on indoor and outdoor stages. Artists include Anna Kathleen, Unc D and Thinthiccet, Swap Meet’s Kari Ann and Peter Jay, Mike Cunningham, Nate Laughmunn, The Flying Trees, Orca Station, Speedo Agreedo, Shultz and the I.C. and Dream Journal.

Phone Group Making Workshop at JCC

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering a Pour Your Own Resin Pop Grip workshop July 26 at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane.

There will be two sessions: ages 10 to 15 at 5 p.m., and ages 16 and up at 6 p.m.

Participants will mix resin, dye and glitter to create their own unique phone grip. Pieces will be available for pickup one week after the class.

‘Jekyll & Hyde’ Auditions at Top Hat Theater

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Top Hat Productions will hold auditions for “Jekyll & Hyde” from 7 to 8 p.m. 

Monday and Tuesday, July 17 and 18, at The Fairview Arts & Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road.  

The production is scheduled for October.

Bishop’s Golf Classic Accepting Players, Foursomes

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown’s inaugural Bishop’s Golf Classic will take place Aug. 2 at Kennsington Golf Club in Canfield.

The course is at Westford Place, off U.S. Route 224.

The event will include Bishop David J. Bonnar and will support the diocese’s Office of Church Vocations and diocesan seminarians. Check-in is at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The event includes 18 rounds of golf, lunch and dinner.
