The Update | Party on the Lawn at the Amp; Retired FBI Agent at Westminster
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Party on the Lawn, a free event featuring local rock band RDNA, will take place Friday, May 5, at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre.
It will be the first in the annual Premier Bank Community Event series at The Amp this summer. More events will be announced soon.
The May 5 event will feature cornhole games, 4 to 5 p.m.; Zumba with Stepping Out, 5 to 6 p.m.; and the concert, 6 to 8 p.m.
Also that evening, DJ Chip Banks will provide music on the Phelps Street Corridor walkway from 7 to 10 p.m.
Retired FBI Agent to Discuss Modern Policing
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Robert Allan Jones, a retired FBI agent and current executive director of security for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in the Witherspoon Lakeview Room of McKelvey Campus Center at Westminster College.
The intelligence, security and organizational leadership expert’s lecture is titled “The 21st Century FBI: Its Place in Modern Policing from Local Law Enforcement to International Capacity Building.”
Jones served 24 years with the FBI and has extensive leadership background in counterterrorism and counterintelligence. He led the FBI’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate and oversaw the FBI’s response to the 2018 Tree of Life Synagogue mass shooting. Following the Sept. 11 terror attacks, he served as the supervisory special agent and unit chief in the Usama Bin Laden Unit of Counterterrorism Division at FBI headquarters.
Free Performances at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Several free performances will take place next week at venues on or near the Youngstown State University campus.
Dana School of Music faculty members Andrew Mitchell (trombone) and Cecilia Yudha (piano) will present a recital at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24, at First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 201 Wick Ave.
Stephanie Ruozzo will lecture on “A Younger School: 21st Century American Opera and the New Verismo” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Room 3026 of Bliss Hall. Ruozzo is the director of education and engagement for the Cleveland Opera Theater.
The Dana Wind Ensemble pops concert, directed by Michael Butler, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Ford Theater, lower level of Bliss Hall.
A joint concert by the YSU and Thiel College choirs will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, in Bliss Recital Hall.
May Day Festival at Calvin Center
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown May Day Festival will take place April 29 and 30, from noon to 6 p.m., at Calvin Center for the Arts, 755 Mahoning Ave. Admission is free.
This family-friendly event will include music, dancing, workshops, crafts, speaker, food and other vendors.

Virtual NBA Tournament at the JCC
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Jewish Community Center of Youngtown is offering an NBA Tournament for ages 10 and older from 12:15 to 2 p.m. May 7 at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane.
Participants will take part in both a virtual NBA tournament and a real basketball shootout. Participants will be divided into two groups by age. Prizes will be awarded for the top score in each age group. Lunch is included.
The cost is $20 for JCC members and $25 for nonmembers. Registration is required by May 3. Register HERE.
Mother’s Day Brunch at Saxon Club
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — Inspired Catering by Kravitz will present its annual Mother’s Day Brunch on May 14 at the Saxon Club on Meridian Road. The dinner will be enhanced with a live performance by classical guitarist Ed Gorse and a family photo booth.
The menu will feature prime rib, chicken cordon bleu and pomegranate glazed salmon, in addition to a traditional omelet bar. Side dishes will include fresh herb risotto, scalloped potatoes and steamed asparagus. Dessert will be cherries jubilee and bananas foster.

Trumbull Students’ Art on Display
HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Trumbull County Educational Service Center’s annual high school art show will open at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at the Medici Museum of Art.
It will showcase over 150 works from 18 Trumbull County school districts.
The artwork will be displayed through the April 26 awards ceremony.
