The Update | Penguin City Taproom to Open July 1; Canfield Fair Schedules Job Fair

YOUNGSTOWN – Penguin City Beer will open to the public on Friday, July 1, culminating a nine-month, $4 million renovation of the brewery’s new location at 460 E. Federal St., downtown, according to a release from the owners.

The taproom will be open from noon to 11 p.m. on Wednesday; noon to midnight Thursday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, offering all of the brewery’s products on draught.

The taproom and bar has seating for close to 300 people, and includes an outdoor patio.

Brewing is already taking place at the 33,000-square-foot Penguin City building.

The brewery, co-owned by Richard Bernacki and Aspasia Lyras-Bernacki, has already begun to brew beer in the new location, which formerly housed a steel company warehouse.

Canfield Fair Schedules Job Fair

CANFIELD, Ohio – The Canfield Fair board of directors will have a job fair on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds event center.

Workers are needed for the fair, which is Aug. 31 to Sept. 5, in the parking and gate admissions departments, and as ushers. Persons interested in obtaining more information and applying for open positions must attend this one-day event.

JCC Offers Summer Art Workshops

YOUNGSTOWN – The Paul and Yetta Gluck School of Visual Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering a variety of art workshops this summer at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane.

A watercolor screenprinting workshop for ages 7 to 17 will be at 6 p.m. June 29. Participants will learn about the screenprinting process and create prints with watercolors and silkscreens.

A ceramic hanging vase workshop for ages 12 and older will be at 5 p.m. July 7 and 21. Participants will create unique wall-hanging vases with ceramic clay and glazes.

A polymer clay jewelry workshop for ages 10 and older will be at noon July 10. Participants will design and craft their own necklace and earrings.

A fairies, gnomes and dragons workshop for ages 10 and older will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 10 and 17. Participants will use air dry clay and recycled objects to create their own fantasy world.

A mixed media abstract collage workshop for all ages will be at 5 p.m. Aug. 18. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will combine various art materials to create a masterpiece. Materials will be provided or participants may bring their own.

Chalk on the Walk on Courthouse Square

WARREN, Ohio – The Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County will present its annual Chalk on the Walk event will take place Saturday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Courthouse Square, downtown. Admission is free and open to all children.

More than 20 local artists will be set up around the square with original works on display and available for purchase.

Several area nonprofits and organizations will provide free information on programs, events and activities.
