The Update | Photo Exhibit at JCC; Rush Tribute Band Coming to Robins

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – An exhibition of works by local photographer Diane Beatty will open June 1 at the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation art gallery and run through July 30. An artist’s reception will take place at 1 p.m. June 4 at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane. Admission is free.

Titled “Color vs. Black and White,” the exhibit will feature a few of Beatty’s favorite photos, some in color, some in black and white, and a few in both.

Beatty is primarily interested in historical and abandoned sites, relishing the challenge of capturing images in low light and composing unique photographs that tell a story.

Rush Tribute Act Limelight Coming to Warren

WARREN, Ohio – Limelight, the leading tribute to Rush, will come to the Robins Theatre on Nov. 18 for an 8 p.m. concert.

Tickets are $19 and $29 (plus applicable fees) and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 26, at robinstheatre.com and at the box office, 160 E. Market St.

A presale exclusively for Friends of the Robins Theatre will start at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Limelight specializes in older Rush songs but represents the band’s entire catalog.

‘Israel Swings for the Gold’ Film Screening

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will show the movie “Israel Swings for the Gold” at 11 a.m. June 11 at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane. 

Admission is free, but registration is required by June 5. Register HERE. A light brunch will be served.

In 2021, Israel’s baseball team competed in the Olympics for the first time. With no media allowed in Tokyo’s Olympic Village, the players recorded their own experiences. Mostly newly minted Israelis, they log unexpected battles against antisemitism and anti-Zionism. Victory for Israel comes on the playing field, even if not on the podium.

Spiritual Storytelling Gathering

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – The Hub, a spiritual gathering committed to connecting people, will present a Spoken Threads storytelling gathering at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Harbel’s Market at Firestone Farms, 45443 state Route 14.

The free event will feature live music by Chase Reiter and Jenna Althouse. “Family Sagas” is the theme.

Spoken Threads storytelling gatherings are designed to engage community members in developing empathy and compassion through the sharing of personal stories and include featured storytellers, live music and an open mic for those who want to share their story. A coaching session takes place a half-hour before each event.

The Hub is affiliated with First Presbyterian Church, Columbiana, and funded by the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Pluto TV to Stream ‘Yellowstone’

LOS ANGELES – Pluto TV, the free online streaming service, will show the first three seasons of the hit drama series “Yellowstone” over Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28.
