The Update | Psych-Rock Band at Westside Bowl; Noisy Mama Reunion at JR’z Pub

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Darsombra, a Baltimore-based rock band that straddles many genres, will come to Westside Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave., on Wednesday, June 7.

Admission is $10. Feckweed will open the 8 p.m. concert.

Darsombra bills itself as “a trans-apocalyptic galaxy rock duo.” The band walks the line between glam, prog, psych, stoner and meta rock, while adding site-specific installation performance art to its show.

Its hallucinogenic live audio-visual shows are often met with stunned reaction from audiences, who were not sure what to expect but enjoyed the show.

“It was like tripping on acid, without the acid,” is a common reaction, according to the band’s press materials.

Audiences can expect cosmic guitar solos and interweaving riffs, blissed-out synth sequences and bass lines, and emotive whacks of a gong or tolls of bells peppered throughout their work, in addition to vocal stylings that range from wordless choral harmonies to percussive chants, grunts and word-salad lyrics.

The members of the act are composer Brian Daniloski on guitar, bass, vocals and sound design; and filmmaker Ann Everton on synth, vocals, percussion and projections.

Darsombra released an album, “Transmission,” in 2019. The band plans to release a double album in the future.

The band also manages a  YouTube channel, complete with videos of their shows, their live projections, music videos, livestreamed shows and episodes of Darsombra TV – the ongoing chronicles of their adventures at large.
