The Update | Purple Cat Art Show and Sale; Canfield Fair Names Presenting Sponsor

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, will host The Cat’s Meow art show and sale, featuring artists from The Purple Cat, from July 6 to 31.

More than 50 paintings and mixed media pieces created by local adults with disabilities will be for sale, with proceeds benefiting Purple Cat programming. 

An opening reception will take place Sunday, July 10, from 1-2:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Davis YMCA. Music will be provided by the Feral Cat Band. The event is free and open to the community.

M@C Discount Named Fair’s Sponsor

CANFIELD, Ohio – The Canfield Fair board of directors has announced that this year’s fair will be presented in partnership with M@C Discount.

M@C Discount offers discounted brand name products for up to 80% off retail prices through daily online auctions at mac.bid.

As the presenting sponsor, M@C Discount will feature select auction items on display during the week of the fair.

The online auction retailer has several warehouses, including one in Boardman. Locations in Warren and Akron will open later this year.

The Canfield Fair will take place August 31 to September 5.

Schermer Trust Donates $1K to OWR

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Opera Western Reserve received a $1,000 donation from The Frances Schermer Charitable Trust for the 2022 fall season.

The opera company will present Puccini‘s “La Bohème on Nov. 11 at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Readers Named for Lit Youngstown Event

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Lit Youngstown’s First Wednesday Readers Series will present poets Kerry Trautman of Findlay and Quartez Harris of Cleveland, a recent poet-in-residence to Youngstown, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Soap Gallery, downtown.

 Lori Shelby will co-host the free reading. The featured readers will be followed by an open mic.

Quartez Harris is a poet, young adult author, and Ohio Poetry Association’s 2021 Poet of the Year. He is the author of “We Made It to School Alive” and “Nothing, But Skin.”

Trautman is one of the founders of ToledoPoet.com. Her poetry books are “Things That Come in Boxes,” “To Have Hoped,” “Artifacts” and “To be Nonchalantly Alive.”

The August 3 First Wednesday reading will feature Youngstown native Rochelle Hurt and Cleveland poet Alynn Mahle. For information, go to www.LitYoungstown.org.
