The Update | St. Patrick’s Week Food Fest at Kravitz; Easter Events for Kids

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Kravitz Delicatessen, 3135 Belmont Ave., will present its annual corned beef fest March 10-17.

Corned beef and cabbage dinners, Guinness Stout stew and extra-large sandwiches will be sold, as well as meatless reuben and cabbage dinners.

Here is the schedule:

  • Friday, March 10: Old Dublin Fish Fry Classic with music by County Mayo, 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 12: Brunch with the Leprechaun, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Family-friendly event at Garden Garden Café at the Davis Education Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
  • Monday, March 13: Make-your-own carryout reuben sandwich kit, $15.
  • Tuesday, March 14: Carryout orders of Irish boxed lunches for advance orders, minimum $150.
  • Thursday, March 16: St. Practice Day celebration.
  • Friday, March 17: St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

Easter Bunny is Coming to Southern Park Mall

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Southern Park Mall has several Easter events planned.

Guests can get photos taken with the Easter Bunny from March 10 through April 8 daily in Center Court.

Photo opportunities will also be available at Besties and Bunny, for guests and their pets, which will take place on March 13 and 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. Pets must be friendly and on a leash.

Families are invited to the Hide & Peep Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at DeBartolo Commons. While the egg hunt portion of this event has recently reached capacity, those who were not able to reserve a spot are invited to enjoy all of the other free activities at this event, including a balloon artist, a petting zoo, live music from DJ Jim Loboy, a caricature artist and special meet and greets with Buzz Lightyear, Mirabel and Snow White.

New Music Guild Piano-Cello Concert

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The New Music Guild’s winter concert, featuring pianist Sean Baran and cellist Silvia Games DuBos playing music by classical and modern composers, will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Holy Apostles Parish, 421 Covington St.

Baran is the organist at Boardman United Methodist Church and a resident artist at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, Pa.

DuBos, of Argentina, is principal cellist of the Washington, Pa., and Greenville, Pa., symphonies and was principal cellist of the symphonies of Ohio University and Duquesne University, and the Symphony Orchestra of Lanus National University in Argentina. She also runs a large private studio in Pittsburgh.

The concert will open with performances by New Music Guild coordinators Gwyneth Rollin, violin, and Robert Rollin, piano, who will play Robert Rollin’s “The Holidays,” a reminiscence of the joys of sharing celebratory family meals, and his Passover Songs, a setting of two folk melodies sung at the Seder.

Rollin will perform his Seven Sound-Images on Seven Stanza by a Child, a setting of a poem by a young inmate of the Terezin Concentration Camp.

DuBos and Baran will perform Shostakovich’s, Cello Sonata in D Minor. Op. 40, a mainstay of the 67 cello repertoire and the world premiere of Rollin’s “Spiritual Images.”

Eggstravaganza at Eastwood Field

NILES, Ohio – The Scrappers and Moxie Events will present Glow in the Dark Easter Eggstravaganza at Eastwood Field at 8 p.m. March 24.

Easter egg prizes will include candy, gift certificates, kids meals and other items. There will also be glow games, glow in the dark treats and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Children must be 12 and under. Tickets are $5 in advance ($7 day of event) and $20 for a value pack admission ($25 day of event) which includes admission, ticket voucher to a Scrappers game, inflatable games, glow in the dark glasses, accessories, tattoos and more. Children and adults will require a ticket. All adults will receive a ticket voucher to a Scrappers game.

Writers Club Plans Next Meeting

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The next meeting of Monday Night Writers will be Monday, March 20, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Leana’s Books & More, 4317 Kirk Road. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend.

Led by professional writer Nancy Christie, author of “Reinventing Rita” and five other books, the meetings offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on works-in-progress.

Arts Organizations Can Apply for Grants

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio arts organizations soon will be able to apply for grants to defray operating expenses and stabilize their financial situation.

The application for the Ohio Arts Economic Relief Grant is available for review on the Ohio Department of Development website, and arts organizations will be able to submit applications beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16. The application period will close at 4 p.m. Friday, March 30.

Poet to Read Works for McGuffey Society

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – LitYoungstown co-founder Karen Schubert will read poems from her books “Dear Youngstown,” “I Left My Wings on a Chair” and “The Compost Reader” at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, in the meeting room of Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave.

Schubert’s poetry has appeared in the Ohio Writers’ Association anthology “Metamorphosis”; the Edith Chase Symposium anthology “Birds of the Cuyahoga”; and the Ohio Poetry Association’s anthology “Ides of March.”

Her awards include an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award, and residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and Headlands Center for the Arts.

Opera Accepting Audition Videos for ‘Carmen’    

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auditions for Opera Western Reserve’s production of “Carmen are being accepted online. The performance will be Nov. 17 at Stambaugh Auditorium.

For available roles and audition requirements, go to operawesternreserve.org/audition. Applications must include uploaded audition videos.

The deadline is April 1. Live auditions will take place April 19 by invitation only.
