The Update | Texas Tenors in Firestone Park Concert Series; Gary Puckett at Robins Theatre
COLUMBIANA, Ohio – Firestone Park’s free fall concert series will take place every Sunday in September and will culminate with a performance by the Texas Tenors.
All concerts will start at 3 p.m. at the park’s new amphitheater. Guests can bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Here is the schedule:
- Sept. 1: Dave Banks Big Band on Broadway; a swing band with soaring trumpets, vocalists and ballroom dancers. (Rain venue: Grace Church, 140 S. Main St.)
- Sept. 8: The Singing Buckeyes; an award-winning Columbus barbershop choir. (Rain venue: Main Street Theater, 5 N. Main St.)
- Sept. 15: Brass Band of the Western Reserve; a British-style brass band offering a variety of music. (Rain venue: Main Street Theater, 5 N. Main St.)
- Sept. 22: Allure; a crossover classical string quartet featuring the finest graduates of Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music. (Rain venue: Grace Church, 140 S. Main St.)
- Sept. 29: The Texas Tenors. The America’s Got Talent Vocal Group winners will cap the season. (Rain venue: Columbiana High School, 700 Columbiana-Waterford Road.)
Poets Lined Up for Lit Youngstown Series
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Poets Roger Craik of Ashtabula and Dave Lucas of Cleveland will be the guests at Lit Youngstown’s First Wednesday readers series at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at Westside Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave., in the downstairs room.
An open-mic session will follow the reading.
Craik is English by birth and has lived in the United States since 1991. He has published five full-length poetry books.
Lucas is the author of “Weather” (VQR/Georgia, 2011), which received the 2012 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry. From 2018 to 2019, he served as the poet laureate of the state of Ohio. A co-founder of Cleveland Book Week and Brews + Prose at Market Garden Brewery, he lives in Cleveland.

Gary Puckett & The Union Gap at Robins Theatre
WARREN, Ohio – Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, one of the most popular groups of the 1960s, will return to the Robins Theatre, with special guests The Cowsills, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.
Tickets range from $79 to $40 (plus applicable fees), and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at robinstheatre.com and the box office, 160 E. Market St.
Puckett’s list of hit songs includes “Young Girl,” “Woman Woman,” “Lady Willpower,” “Keep the Customer Satisfied,” “Don’t Give in to Him” and “Home.”
Method 8 to Screen ‘The Land of Escobar’ Film
BOARDMAN, Ohio – Method 8 will screen its latest movie, “The Land of Escobar, Part 5,” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.
Method 8 has been serving the Mahoning Valley for over 17 years as an independent performing arts outlet. All productions can be viewed at method8inc.com.
“The Land of Escobar, Part 5,” written and directed by Brian K. West, continues the story set in a faraway galaxy where a battle rages.
Tickets are $30 for the event, which includes food, live music and comedy, a raffle and the movie, and can be purchased at Method8inc.com or at the door.
