The Update | Theater Offers ‘Little Women’; Opera Plans a ‘Soiree’; Stunt Show at Mall
SALEM, Ohio – Indigo Family Theater will present “Little Women” at Salem Community Theatre on May 11-13.
The classic Louisa May Alcott play follows the March sisters’ journey from childhood to maturity during the Civil War.
Caleb Pieplow is directing the Indigo production.
Performances will begin at 7 p.m. May 11, 12 and 13, and 2 p.m. May 14.
General admission tickets are $15 ($10 for children 12 and under), and can be purchased before the show or in advance HERE.
Dinner, Film on the Stambaugh Promenade
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Opera Western Reserve will present “Bizet to Belafonte: A Southern Soiree on the Promenade” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, outdoors on the promenade of Stambaugh Auditorium.
The evening will begin with a southern-style buffet dinner and will include a screening of the film “Carmen Jones.” There will also be a cash bar, and raffle items and movie concessions will be sold.
“Carmen Jones” is Oscar Hammerstein II’s 1943 adaptation of Bizet’s opera “Carmen.” It is set in 1950s North Carolina.
In November, OWR will present a live production of Bizet’s “Carmen” at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Stunt Show at Southern Park Mall Parking Lot
BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Nitro Extreme motorcycle, car and monster truck stunt show will come to the Southern Park Mall parking lot Thursday through Sunday, May 11-14.
Performances will take place in the area between the JCPenney and Macy’s entrances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Each show is nearly two hours long.
Tickets start at $15 and can be purchased in advance at nitroextreme.com. Children’s tickets are available for free at the mall’s food court.
Family Friendly Jewish Comedian at JCC
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Comedian Robert Cait will perform at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, at 5:30 p.m. May 17.
Cait has been hailed for his “clean” Jewish stand-up comedy. He has appeared in many films, television series and recognizable commercials such as the voice of Duke the Dog for Bush’s Baked Beans, Boris Badenov for DreamWorks’ “Bullwinkle” cartoons, Norm the Genie for Nickelodeon’s “Fairly Odd Parents,” Colossus from “X-Men” and more.

Lecture on the War in Ukraine
BOARDMAN, Ohio – Howard Mettee will give a free lecture on the roots of the war in Ukraine at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at St. James Meeting House, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.
A question-and-answer period will follow the 45-minute lecture.
Mettee is a retired Youngstown State University chemistry professor.
