The Update | Theater to Dedicate Wheelchair Ramp

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Hopewell Theatre will dedicate its new ADA-accessible ramp and entrance at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, before the opening of its newest production, “Morning’s at 7.”

The ramp, completed this year, is the first step in transforming the historic building, built in the 1890s, into a fully accessible site.

In addition to support from the community, funding was secured through a $22,300 Shuttered Venue Operators Grant through the Small Business Administration. The lead gift for the ramp was funded by Marlene Strollo, a former Hopewell Theatre board member and longtime supporter. The ramp will be dedicated in memory of Dominic M. and Evelyn F. Menaldi.

The theater will now turn its attention to creating an accessible restroom on the main floor. Currently, the restrooms are on the basement level and not accessible.

“Morning’s at 7” takes a sharp and funny look at the eccentricities, regrets and longings of everyday folks. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6-7, and 13-14; and at 2 p.m. Sept. 15. For tickets, go to hopewelltheatre.org.
