The Update | Tickets for Play about Overdose Victim; Cirque Performers at Fellows

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Tickets are on sale for the premiere of “Amanda: She Didn’t Want to Die,” a stage play based on the life of Amanda Marie McAuley of Poland, Ohio, who died of a fentanyl overdose in 2023 at age 27.

The play will be performed at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at Powers Auditorium, in the DeYor Performing Arts Center, downtown.

Tickets range from $80 to $20 (plus applicable fees) and can be purchased at experienceyourarts.org, the DeYor box office and by calling 330 259 9651.

The play was written and is being directed by Youngstown-based filmmaker/director Michael Anthony Forney.

It is the project of Donna McAuley, Amanda’s mother, and is intended to raise awareness among young people to prevent further deaths from fentanyl overdoses.

Amanda was a 2014 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, with a promising future as a model.

Cirque du Soleil Artists in Insect Event

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Troupe members from Cirque du Soleil will be present at an insect-themed event at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Cushwa pavilion at Fellows Riverside Gardens, on McKinley Street on the West Side.

The troupe members will join Mill Creek MetroParks education staff to teach kids and their families about insects, including how to creep and crawl like one.

The Cirque artists will be in costume and available for a workshop and photo opportunities.

Admission is free. Limited parking is available at the site.

Cirque du Soleil’s “OVO” will be performed at Covelli Centre in Youngstown at 7 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at cirquedusoleil.com/ovo and at the box office.

Growers & Makers Market Returns for Season

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The Growers & Makers Market at the Cascade Galleria, 100 S. Jefferson St., will return Saturday, June 8, for its third year.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through October. Admission is free.

The market features produce by local farmers, and goods from several small businesses and local bakers.

The Bookmobile will be at the market on the second Saturday of every month.

Participants Sought for Donut Run/Walk

CANFIELD, Ohio – The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley’s annual Point 5K Run/Walk will take place Saturday, July 13, at White House Fruit Farm, starting at 10 a.m.

The family-oriented event is a half-kilometer (1,640 foot) jaunt with a donut stop in the middle.

Registration is now open for $5 per participant. Every registrant will be rewarded with an exclusive oval Point 5K car decal, a White House Fruit Farm donut, a bottle of water and a race bib.
