The Update | Warren Civic Music Concert Series; Smarts Fundraiser Event

WARREN, Ohio – The Warren Civic Music Association has revealed its 2023-24 season lineup.

All shows are at Packard Music Hall and start at 7 p.m. For season tickets, call 330 399 4885 or go to warrencivicmusic.com. For individual tickets to a single event, go to ticketmaster.com. Individual tickets are $40 (plus fees).

Here is the schedule:

  • Sept. 19: Rhinestone Cowgirls, a tribute to the legendary ladies of country music;
  • Oct. 17: RocOpraNatra, featuring Brian Roman, Christopher Dallo and Danny Scott;
  • Nov. 8: The Music of Bobby Darin, starring Ron Gartner;
  • Dec. 14: The New York Tenors, featuring Andy Cooney, Daniel Rodriguez and Christopher Macchio;
  • April 16, 2024: The Greatest Piano Men, a tribute to Billy Joel, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Liberace and more;
  • May 2, 2024: Benise – Fiesta!

The Joy of Smarts to Feature Art Sale

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Smarts Community Art School will present The Joy of Smarts on Friday, June 30, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Smarts center, Ohio One Building, 25 E. Boardman St., first floor. 

A VIP party for sponsors, contributing artists and those who purchase VIP tickets will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Guests can bid on their favorite works from local and regional artists, hear live acoustic music by JD Eicher and his band, watch a demonstration of portrait painting by Bobbie Fertig and enjoy light appetizers by Chef Christopher. There will be a cash bar featuring Modern Methods Brewing Co. beer, wine and a bourbon taste with Smarts’ signature cocktail, the 1st Ward, created by the Youngstown Whisk(e)y Club.

Walking Tour of Courthouse Square

WARREN, Ohio – Trumbull County Historical Society will present its third annual walking tour of Courthouse Square at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1. The tour starts at the Trumbull County Courthouse, 161 High St.

Artisan, Crafter, Baker Fest at Sarah’s Ceramic

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Café Rosé and Sarah’s Ceramic Studio will present a Christmas in July vendor fair to support Buster’s Brigade, with local artisans, crafters and bakers. The event will take place at Sarah’s Ceramic Studio, 4491 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, on Saturday, July 15, from noon to 3 p.m.

Each participating local, small business vendor is donating a handmade item to a basket raffle to support Buster’s Brigade, which provides medical and food assistance to pets. Basket raffle donations are being accepted from other businesses and individuals through July 14.

Christmas In July will also feature complimentary hot cocoa, coffee and tea; outdoor family friendly games; and crafts for all ages. Additionally, Mercy Health will present yoga from 1 to 2 p.m. and a healthy cooking demonstration.

Playhouse Sets Auditions for ‘Misery’

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auditions for the Youngstown Playhouse’s production of “Misery” will take place at 6 p.m. July 16 and 17 at the theater.

“Misery” is a horror story by Stephen King that was made into a 1990 movie.

The two roles to be filled are Paul Sheldon, age 40 to 50, and Annie Wilkes, age 30 to 50.

Auditionees should be prepared to read from the script. “Misery” is a physically demanding show that requires bending, kneeling, lifting, rolling and engaging in aggressive choreographed stage combat. The play also contains violent scenes and adult language.

The creative team is led under the direction of Christopher Fidram and includes Caitlyn Santiago (stage manager) and Leslie Brown (lighting designer). Rehearsals will begin in late August. Performances will take place October 27-29 and Nov. 3-5.

PAW-Lapalooza Dog Show Seeks Entries

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Junior League of The Mahoning Valley will present the second annual PAW-Lapalooza Dog Show from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Boardman Park.

Dog owners are encouraged to register their pets and participate. Dogs will be grouped into two divisions: toy/small and medium/large.

Registration is $10 per pet, which includes entry into all categories. Each pet will receive a doggy swag bag filled with various useful items, including a collapsible doggie dish, while supplies last.

All dogs must be registered and have proof of rabies vaccination and must be on a leash. Owners are responsible for cleanup after their pups.
