The Update | Youngstown Holiday Parade, Market to Return

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The annual Youngstown holiday parade, light-up night and Flea on Phelps artisan market will take place Friday, Dec. 6.

The market will take place on South Phelps Street from 4 to 8 p.m. The parade will start at 6 p.m., with the tree lighting to follow at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Central Square.

The Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will have a pop-up library at the site, and Oh Wow! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology will be open with free admission from 4 to 6 p.m.

Santa’s Workshop, a Spruce pop-up shop and free pictures with Santa will take place at the DeYor Performing Arts Center from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event will feature commemorative mugs that can be used to purchase drink specials at downtown bars and restaurants.

Christmas Past Exhibition at the Arms

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Arms Family Museum is temporarily closed so that the annual Memories of Christmas Past exhibition can be prepared.

Each November, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society offers the popular exhibition. The exhibit extends throughout the Arms, with each room filled with antique Christmas décor.

During preparation, the museum and the adjacent Stewart Media Archives will be closed. Both will reopen Saturday, Nov. 16, when the Memories of Christmas Past exhibition begins. The exhibition will run through the end of the year.

Sight for All’s Annual Eye Ball at Eastwood

NILES, Ohio – Sight for All United will present its annual Eye Ball of the Mahoning Valley, a formal black-tie fundraiser, on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Eastwood Event Centre.

The event will have an Alice in Wonderland theme. Guests will be able to enjoy tea with the Mad Hatter, outwit the Tweedles and defeat the Queen of Hearts in a game of chance.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed promptly with a live dinner performance by two-time Grammy Award nominee Blessing Offor.

After the live auction, local band RDNA will provide music for dancing. Guests will also find a game of croquet, specialty Drink Me potions at the bar and a silent auction, which will be available online for any person to bid on, starting a few days before the event.

The event’s sponsors are the Cafaro Foundation and the Leonard Fisher and Carol Burgess Family.

Taqueria El Vaquero Opens at Mall

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Taqueria El Vaquero has opened a new location in the food court of Southern Park Mall.

The eatery is a departure from the typical Tex-Mex restaurant. The focus is on street tacos and authentic barbacoa birria dishes.

“We are a family-owned business, and we wanted to start with something a little different than our usual offerings,” said Noelia Alcazar, the owner of Taqueria El Vaquero.

The eatery will be open the same hours as the mall: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

‘Miracle on Easy Street’ Tickets on Sale

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – “Miracle on Easy Street” will return to Powers Auditorium for three performances Dec. 13-15.

The holiday season song and dance revue is a Mahoning Valley tradition that is celebrating its 35th year. The high-spirited show features scores of dancers, live music and vocalists.

Easy Street Productions co-founders Maureen Collins and Todd Hancock will again serve as hosts, joining more than 100 singers, dancers and Little Rascals youth troupe members.

Featured performers will include James McClellan, Colleen Chance, Katy Collins and Candace Campana. Cortney MacKay, a “Miracle” alumnus, will return as a soloist.

Musical director Don Yallech will lead the Easy Street Little Big Band. The dancers, led by choreographer Megan Cleland, represent studios across the Valley.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.

Tickets range from $35 to $19 (plus fees) and can be purchased in advance at Deyorpac.org, by calling the DeYor box office at 330 259 9651, or at the box office before each performance.

Senior Showcase will Return to Robins

WARREN, Ohio – After its successful event last winter, The Senior Showcase will return to the Robins Theatre at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.

Talented local residents age 55 and up will perform in the variety show, which will feature singers, dancers, musicians, magicians, skits and other acts.

Tickets cost $15 and $22 (plus applicable fees) and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at RobinsTheatre.com and at the box office, 160 E. Market St.
