Thompson Group Celebrates 70 Years

GIRARD, Ohio – Thompson Insurance Group enjoyed an eventful 2017 as it celebrated 70 years of doing business. The Girard-based independent agency earned several industry accolades while contributing to community causes. And the company’s vice president, Andrew Thompson, was honored with two prestigious titles.

In February, Thompson’s personal and commercial lines division, The Gibson Agency, was recognized by Donegal Insurance Group as an agency of distinction. This award demonstrates Gibson’s growth and achievements with Donegal as well as exceptional performance in both business and customer service.

That same month, Gibson was awarded the highest designation with Grange Insurance as a Leadership Circle agency. This title is given to Grange’s most experienced and talented independent agency partners who demonstrate leadership in the industry. Gibson was just one of 39 agencies to receive the award out of nearly 4,000 independent agencies across the nation that sell Grange products.

Gibson also added new options to its roster of insurance companies: Western Reserve Group, a long-standing Ohio company with an A (excellent) rating by A.M. Best Co., and Chubb Commercial for the agency’s commercial lines division. Chubb has an A++ (superior) rating by A.M. Best and is the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer.

Andrew Thompson, vice president and partner of Thompson Insurance Group, was chosen as chairman for the 2018 Tri-County Heart Ball, to be held Feb. 24 at the MetroPlex Expo Center in Girard. The annual fundraising event benefits the local American Heart Association. Thompson Private Client Services, a subsidiary of Thompson Insurance Group, is the event’s signature sponsor and has made a $30,000 contribution to the organization.

“This cause is near and dear to our hearts, and I’m honored to have been chosen for this important position,” says Thompson.

Thompson was also chosen as one of the Mahoning Valley’s 25 Under 35 honorees for 2017-2018. The awards program recognizes the accomplishments of young professionals and their commitment to giving back to the community. Thompson is a member of several nonprofit organizations including the American Red Cross, Homes for Kids Inc., the American Heart Association and the Animal Welfare League.

Thompson Insurance Group also participated in several fundraising events throughout 2017. In April, the agency again held a food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank to benefit its Harvest for Hunger Campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to help the food bank stock its shelves for the spring and summer months, when donations typically tend to taper off. Thompson Insurance Group collected a total of 744 pounds of food to help feed families throughout Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.

In May, agency employees raised $250 for Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley and participated in the organization’s annual Bowl-a-Thon at Camelot Lanes.
The Tri-County Heart Walk was held in September, the agency raising more than $1,700 to benefit the American Heart Association. The T-shirt the agency designed for the walk won the award for best overall design.

The agency employs 25 and is looking to hire and expand later this year.
