Three Permits Issued in Ohio’s Utica-Point Pleasant

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Three permits for horizontal wells were issued last week in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale play, according to the latest data provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

All three permits were awarded to Ascent Resources Utica LLC for new wells in Harrison County, according to ODNR. 

As of July 6, 2019, ODNR had issued 3,120 permits in the Utica-Point Pleasant. Of that number, 2,639 are drilled and 2,225 are in production.

There were 17 rigs active in the Utica-Point Pleasant, according to ODNR.

There were no new permits issued in the northern tier of Ohio’s Utica, which includes Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. 

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection reported there were no new Utica permits issued in neighboring Lawrence or Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania.
