YSU University Theater Begins Season Sept. 30
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A Tony Award-winning comedy, a Stephen Sondheim musical and a Mozart opera are among the offerings as the Youngstown State University Department of Theater and Dance announces it 53rd season of performances.
University Theater will open its season at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 with the Tony Award-winning comedy “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.” Other performances are Oct. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9, with the Sunday matinees starting at 2 p.m. Shows are in Bliss Hall.
“This season of shows offers a wide selection of choices, and highlights the talents of our students, staff and faculty who have worked hard to achieve success at their craft,” said Matthew Mazuroski, chair of the Department of Theater and Dance.
The schedule also features Stephen Sondheim’s “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” starting Nov. 18 and running through Dec. 4; “No More Peace!,” a satire by Ernst Toller that runs Feb. 24 through March 5; the YSU Dance Ensemble in Concert, April 6, 7 and 8; and From Mozart to Menotti, featuring two one-act operas, “The Impresario” by W. A. Mozart, and “The Medium” by Gian Carlo Menotti, April 21, 22 and 23.
Season subscriptions for adults are $60 and are available for purchase by calling the University Theater Box Office at 330 941 3105 or emailing [email protected]. Discounts are also available for members of the YSU Alumni Society, Penguin Club and Regional Chamber; YSU Faculty and staff and retirees; and students not attending YSU. University Theater performances are free for YSU students.
