Top Hat Opens Its Season with ‘Sister Act’

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Top Hat Productions will open its 2019-20 season with the musical “Sister Act.”

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 and 26, and Nov.  1, 2, 8 and 9, at Fairview Arts & Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road.

Based on the 1992 film of the same name, “Sister Act” tells the story of disco singer Deloris Van Cartier (played by Nikita R. Jones), whose life takes an unexpected turn when she witnesses a murder committed by her boyfriend, Curtis Shank (Brian Palumbo).

After reporting it to police, she is put in protective custody, disguised as a nun, and hidden in a convent under the watchful eye of Mother Superior (Brandy Johanntges).

Struggling with the restrictions of the convent, Deloris finds comfort in the choir and uses her singing voice to inspire the nuns (Courtney Bailey, Julie DeSalvo, Brittany Storey, Denise Sybelink, Julie Palumbo Villa, Emma Wason and Terri Wilkes).

Rounding out the cast are Taeshawn Madison, Isaiah Shelton, Bret Vandermark, John Weber, Tylor Zuniga and an ensemble.

Tickets are $17.50 ($15.50 for seniors) and are available in advance at BrownPaperTickets.com or by calling 800 838 3006 (fees apply).
