Tourism Spending in Mahoning Rises, According to Report

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Tourism in Mahoning County continues to grow, posting an economic impact of $1.1 billion in 2023, according to a report by Tourism Economics.

That figure is a 10% increase from the last report, released in 2021, which showed an economic impact of $1 billion for the county.

Mahoning County garnered more than $638 million in direct visitor spending, up from $581 million reported in the 2021 study.

This figure encompasses both day and overnight visitors, according to the tourism agency.

Mahoning County trails only Cuyahoga, Summit and Stark counties for tourism spending, according to the report. The sustained visitor activity in the county supported more than 10,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.

“Since 2021, we have observed a consistent upward trend in Mahoning County’s tourism sales,” said Megan Magnetta, executive director of Mahoning County Tourism. “This steady growth is a testament to the county’s attractiveness as a destination and the resilience of our local tourism industry.”

The Mahoning County numbers are reflected statewide, according to the Tourism Economics report, indicating the state moved beyond the pandemic recovery phase in 2023 and demonstrating consumer confidence.
