Toys R Us Distribution Center Sold for $15.8M
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A Michigan-based warehousing and storage company closed on the purchase of the former Toys R Us distribution center at 1500 Geoffrey Trail.
HMS Mfg. Co., a Troy, Mich. warehousing and storage company closed on the purchase of the property on Feb. 1 for $15,800,000, according to documents on file at the Mahoning County Recorder’s office. As of November 2018, the company had been operating a 400,000-square-foot distribution center there, where it employed about 80.
In November 2018, a subsidiary of HMS, Noah Co. LLC, purchased the former Parker Hannifin Corp. plant on Intertech Drive, where it planned to expand its distribution operations.
According to its website, HMS is a global manufacturer of home product solutions established in 1987. The company got its start producing Christmas tree stands and has expanded its product lines to include storage and organization, laundry, waste and kitchen.
The company is also licensed to distribute Hefty, Home Logic and Stola brand names. HMS lists warehouse locations in Ohio, Arkansas, Texas and Kentucky, as well as an overseas office in Hong Kong.
The previous owner of the former Toys R Us property was AG-EIP 1500 Geoffrey Trail LLC, who assumed ownership of the property from Equity Industrial IV LLC in January 2019, according to the county auditor. In 2000, Equity Industrial Partnership IV & Billerica LLC purchased the property for $10 million from TRU Ohio Properties Inc.
The building was built in 1992 and sits on a nearly 44-acre parcel of land.
